    2017 Chase Headley Thread

This guy deserves a thread just for showing up with a clear strategy for beating the shift. Why can't everybody do this?

And now he's stealing bases ... am I going to have to buy a Headley t-shirt?

Exactly...the man has a plan and he is working it. It is great to see. He will need to re-adjust when the defense does away with the shift, of course.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

I hope the best for him. He gets a lot of hate but I think he's been fine for a team that hasn't been contending and has no clear replacement.

That Hate will change in a hurry if he keep playing like this....not to mention his defense has been superb so far.

I'm happy for him, and this presents the opportunity to trade him if he's able to keep it up. With Andujar ready as soon as next year and the need to also open up a spot for Torres, this could be a win-win for everyone.

I hope Headley's back stays healthy. His production seems to be tied to that at times.

Honestly though he seems like a place holder at this point.

But if he can produce, great.

His contract ends at the same time Machado becomes a FA. It's perfect. Improving the infield needs to start with replacing Castro with Gleyber.

They need to cut this playing Gleyber at 3B twice a week BS.

Agreed. Also worth keeping an eye on Andujar. If his development is going well, that would be the time to deal Headley.

    I'm very bearish on Andujar.

Saw him a handful of times in Trenton, defense very shaky and tended to expand the zone when hitting. Still very young and has time on his side, but needs to make strides on both sides of the ball,

Andujar is still raw. Reminds me, I thought Mateo was supposed to be in the majors by now, not Tampa. So much for that bold prediction YF..

That's the real Chase Headley. Still probably playing a little over his head right now. I am a little biased because I took a liking to him when he played for the San Antonio Missions while I was stationed there.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

He's a perfect #7 hitter for a competitive team, a #9 hitter for a contender. Can sometimes be very clutch. Reminds me of Scott Brosius, although a bit overpaid. Who knew Solarte was for real? Headley should be playing about 140 games max and available to pinch hit in the rest.

It's surprising to see him get off to the start he has. He looked atrocious all ST.

    Re: 2017 Chase Headley Thread

Means nothing? Only if you're talking about future projections; which, even in that case, if he's made adjustments like they've discussed on the broadcasts numerous times, his current play could at least represent an improvement from his prior year totals as a Yankees. He is walking more, striking out less, and hitting more line drives. Plus, even if he regresses to his norms as a Yankee from the last two years (.255 BA, .325 OBP, .375 SLG, 92 wRC+) for the rest of this season, he's already done enough in 50 ABs to drive his year end totals up by a decent chunk (.267, .342, .395, ~99 wRC+), assuming he gets 600 at bats. So yeah, there quite a few ways that a small sample size could effect year end totals at the very least.

With all of that said, while small sample sizes can matter, if you take his COMPLETELY UNSUSTAINABLE .500 BABIP and reduce it to .300, his numbers basically regress right back to around his Yankee norms. So, if you were talking in terms of strict future projection, I'd agree that it's a stretch to think he's back to 2011-2012 form. But SSS's can be meaningful when considering other facts.

the big change with him is the far higher ratio of air vs ground balls. he's elevating the ball much more.
