Plausible deniability perhaps? It's preferable to a 95 mph fastball, but getting hit at 77 mph with a baseball doesn't tickle either.

I blame this on the preceding and ongoing antics of the players and coaches, not on the ump.

I usually support the umps cuz I know how hard it is, but West was all over the place last night. Time to hang up the mask, Joe.

The k-zone was all over the place for both teams. I guess that's being fair?!?

I rank Angel Hernandez and CB Buckner as worse than West.

It's like asking what smells worse: dog poop, horse poop, or bear poop. At the end of the day they all stink and there are no winners.

Man, Angel Hernandez has been atrociously bad tonight. At least West was consistently bad last night. Tonight Hernandez is just calling whatever the hell he wants. Pitches to Votto (out of the strike zone, called strike) and Holliday (in the strike zone, called ball) as examples.

I actually thought the strike zone last night was one of the best and most consistent of the season. No idea who the ump was, however.

    Agreed.

It was a fairly consistent strike-zone.

Hey, CC had no problems finding it, especially in the 2nd inning.

The umpire that blew the Bonifacio catch call last night also blew a call at the plate just now. Both overturned by replay. He should be fined or suspended. Utter garbage.

You would think that instant replay reviews would make the umpire's better. More diligent in getting the calls correct live.

However, it seems it's made them worse, perhaps lazier. They know IR can get the call right if they don't.

You'd think they'd be embarrassed to get easy calls wrong, but overall, they don't care.

There doesn't seem to be any penalty for bad umpiring. If a player does poorly, he is sent to the minors, or released. If an umpire does poorly they eventually become crew chiefs.

A horrible game by the home plate ump tonight. As if a changing strike zone is bad enough, it literally was changing during the at bat from pitch to pitch.

Can someone please explain to me how Joe West is still umpiring?
Holy mackerel he's so outta shape, can't move and so lazy.... It's incredible.

Pretty much. You never see an umpire lose his job because of poor performance.

I don't think they should lose their jobs... right away anyway.
There should be some kind of consequence though.
Maybe a trip back to the minor leagues? Something's got to be done.
