Judge to 1B, Bird to 2B, Carter to RF. Castro to SS and Headley stays put.

If they carried one less reliever they could have an extra guy to play the infield.

But aren't the Yankees going to lose that "extra" spot in about two weeks when the 5th starter comes into play?

Oh helllll no. Cannot stand Ellsbury and, like most, first-guessed he would be an absolute bust signing. However, would easily stick with Ellsbury over Heyward at this point. At least JE can pretend to be a major leaguer.

I checked Romine's stat history and he has never played 3rd either. Girardi is playing with fire if this is how he going to handle the SSs that he does not trust late in games until Didi returns.

We know that. He hit .100 during ST. Girardi had a front row seat. So why is he taking Kozma out of the game for him?

Would you prefer they had Wednesday and Thursday off? Three game series so they had to do it this way.

It's been this way for several years now. Opening Day is a two day event, and everybody has a day off after their first game.

maybe because the Yankees were down 5R and instead of a punch and judy hitter who does not hit HRs, he went with a bat who led the NL last year with 41 HRs. I am not a big fan of Carter either, but Joe went with a bat who had the potential to immediately put him back into a game as opposed to a lifetime hitter who has little power. And I totally agree, that if the move had worked out, the Yankees would not have been in a good situation, position wise, in the bottom of the 9th. But again, Joe has done it before and I fully expect that we will see it again.

Hard to feel sorry for a guy making 200 million, but Heyward is completely lost. I could see him hitting below .200 this year.

UM, he led the league in HR's? You are joking, right?

I will eat a baseball if he comes close to leading the AL in homers again. So we tie the game or take the lead and then bring out the worst infield lineup in franchise history because there are no infielders left and lose the game on an infield hit. Just because Carter is the best hitter left on the bench doesn't make it the right move with the consequences of what the infield defense would look like.

It's not about leading the league in HRs but about trying to give your team the best chance at getting a win. Before they played the bottom of the 9th, the Yankees had to score at least 5r and having Carter hit there was the better option. Managers do this tactic all the time, see Travis Wood playing left field last year, and I think that this is simply a mole hill.

Blowing up over this non-issue is insane. You're concerned that the defense after COMING BACK FROM 5 RUNS would not be adequate for 1 INNING (plus extras if necessary).

Yes, you put him up there every time and if you are lucky enough to tie the game you deal with what comes next.
