Headley beat the shift 3 times. Certainly more pleasant than watching Tex and McCann hit straight into them.

Sanchez figured out based on this game? Archer is lucky that comebacker today was at his feet.

Headley and Castro will also be our best hitters. And Tanaka isn't going to make it to the 4th inning in any of his starts.

In all seriousness, I do believe Sanchez is going to need to adjust. But I don't really agree with you saying the league figured out Bird. What makes you say that?
The pitch pattern on bird was clear to me. Start him with off speed low and away, and go high fastball to finish him off. He was not able to adjust.

Move Tanaka to the bullpen and Gary should switch spots in the batting order with Castro.

He's on Hall of Fame path. Hard to develop HOF's. Maybe start small like All Stars.

I knew the spring training outcome was going to blow up expectations.

It's going to be a long year for many if you don't scale it back a bit and accept that this season is not going to be a playoff season. Which is okay. The direction is the right one.

On second thought, watching ESPN Cards-Cubs tonight Bryant had those numbers last year (Birds) and he was league MVP. Might be a lot to expect.

his other at bat where he missed a bases clearing double by like a foot was a good one. He lost the at bat unfortunately but it was fun to watch.

At least we didn't give Heyward $180M. Dear God is he atrocious and the Cubs will be ruing that contract for the next decade. (something I said could happen when people insisted he'd opt out b/c he'd outperform the front end of the contract)

He just got a "base hit" because the 1B couldn't step on the bag on a routine grounder and instead tried to turn two. That's about the only way he can get on base these days.

Cubs "tinkered" with his swing in the offseason. He rewarded them with a .164 batting average this ST which, oddly enough, is exactly the AVG he posted in the 2016 spring. Fantastic adjustment.

That was mostly prospects though. The vets didn't play much. If they did, most didn't hit or pitch well. As soon as prospects started being reassigned, the loses seem to began. And for me, the excitement level dropped unless Bird, Sanchez and Judge were at AB.

But yeah, a lot of our prospects had a good ST which contributed to the record.

For me, and I think most posters here, the expectation is that Sanchez, Bird, and probably Judge are going to hit at a high level, regardless of the team record. If they do not and take steps back, there is going to be a lot of disappointment that the rebuild is not working. Similarly, there are also expectations for some key minor leaguers that could result in disappointment.

Team record is less important, but we can still hope that the questionable rotation some how is adequate and that the team does well. I know I will.

Somebody help me out here. In the 9th inning instead of having Kozma bat Girardi PH him with Carter. Who would have played SS if the Yankees managed to tie it up or take the lead? Romine was the only player left on the bench.
