    Ahh . . .IF!

But IF they start winning, then what? Wait a minute, they have been winning - 16-12 (.571) since the ASB. Why is the conversation still mired in a losing streak that's been over for a month? As if it's still June when most of the losing took place?

What IF they continue to win at the .571 pace that they've been maintaining since the ASB?

Agree. Others are going to have to step up. Like Hicks last night and Sanchez this afternoon.

OTOH, returns of Hicks, Castro, and Bird should help.

Loved Girardi as a player, but have always been lukewarm on him as a manager. The team is under-performing at 61-54, imo. Whether it's strategy, motivation, inspiration, whatever, their record is way below what it should be given their run differential this year over 115 games. And that includes the injuries.

The team has been on a roller coaster ride all season.

There are 47 games left. The 90-win plateau would be nice. That would mean at least 29-18 the rest of the way. Surely do-able.

That's .617. They'd have to get red hot to play that well the rest of the way. Do you expect everyone to bust out of this funk at once plus Castro and Bird to come back and hit the ground running that hard?

Fangraphs has them projected right now for 85-77 and 59% to get a wild card. Only 10% to win the East.

I would be shocked if they played .617 ball for the remainder of the season. That seems like a big ask from a team that has played .415 ball for the last 53 games.

Especially with panic switch Joe at the helm. We saw how well that worked last September.

I could see that happening. A lot of those losses from the bad stretch were due to the bullpen, and now the bullpen is looking a lot better. The offense is due to break out of the slump as a whole and then we could be primed to make a big run.

And why is the offense due to break out of a slump that has gone on for over a month? The bullpen is better but panic Joe will run 5 relievers out there at any hint if trouble.

The same reason the bullpen broke out of it's slump. Players will break out (Sanchez/Judge/Gardner etc) and it will be reinforced (Castro/Bird/Healthy Holliday).

And yeah, lets blame the players failing at their job on the manager. That makes total sense lol

Biggest series of the year and Austin Romine starts 2 out of 3 games.

yep...and Cooper sits against the lefties even though Headley can't hit right-handed and Cooper has been making good contact.
Standings: Big Inning 32-16; Blue Cut 27-21; Shoo Fly 26-22; Husk 22-26; Frank Pierce 21-27; Iowa City 16-32.

Surprised Cooper doesn't get significantly more playing time. Joe usually loves guys from other organizations.

Sitting Cooper while playing Romine again and turning Sanchez into a semi-regular DH is the final straw for me. Girardi needs to go.

He is not capable of leading this team moving forward. No point in having talent when you don't know how to use it properly.

I could have understood if Joe gave the Judge the night off against Sale. But he will probably do it tomorrow when the Mets throw their worst starter at the Yankees.

Well Joe set up the rotation so Garcia and not Gray pitched in this series.

Let me tell you how shocked I am that a garbage hitting catcher turned coach deems it appropriate to give another garbage hitting catcher consistent playing time.

20th blown save. Feelings be damned. Stop using Chapman to close games.

Cat has run out his clock. TYankees have taken a 6.5+ game lead in the division 38 times in franchise history. They've won the division every single one of those times up until 2015 when they punted a 6.5 game lead as late as July 26th. Fast forward to 2017: up four games on June 11th and have gone 23-32 since to fall 5.5 back. They're also 4-8 since the Gray trade with two series losses coming against two cellar dwellers. 25-27 against teams under .500 with the six teams behind them combining for a .432 WP%

Fangraphs' BaseRuns projections has their actual record at 70-45 -- they're a major league leading 9 games under their expected level of play.

    Re: 2017 Binder Performance Thread

I have said this before in another thread. For the season who in the Yankees lineup is under performing. I would say no one. The problem with the Yankees for the last three years has been their lack of hitting not the pitching. Judge's monster first half covered this up for a bit this season but that is no longer the case. I don't blame Girardi for this.

If Judge and Chapman continue being mediocre to horrible the Yankees could still limp into the playoffs but even that's a coin flip now. Some new blood from the minors might help but it looks that is at least two weeks away so the team will muddle along. Why at least Andujar has not been brought up by now is mind boggling.

I truly don't understand why he kept Chapman in the game for another inning last night.
