It's going to pass 51-50 with the VP as the tiebreaker. I'll be absolutely shocked if it doesn't. Then they'll go to committee, both houses will agree, and it'll be game over. The GOP will do anything to cut taxes for their overlords (and, largely, themselves.)

That being said it will pass at some point.

schemer suggested they only needed one more GOP senator to defect and they have the votes to stop this. i'm not overly convinced.

It's going to pass. You know McConnell is cutting deals as we speak. They need this and he's going to do whatever he needs to do to make it happen.

No one needs this. And if you do, you're a crappy person.

You're probably right. Thinking about it makes me so very sad.

Health bill out. They say pre existing conditions are protected. No they are not as insurers no longer need to carry essential services. Which means people with pre existing conditions can't be denied coverage but sorry we don't offer coverage for your condition. This bill is as bad as the House bill and maybe worse.

    Re: Healthcare

Trump who called the House version "mean" (after celebrating its passage) just said the Senate bill, with very little substantial difference, called it "very good".

Looking like Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Merkowski (sp) are "nay."

There are going to be more than a couple of really hard sells. He'll get Cruz, Lee and Paul on board, but if he satisfies them he'll have trouble with Collins, Murkowski and Cassidy.

I've not found a reference to the essential benefits anywhere. I'm sure you're correct as that was one that was always included when they talked about what to cut. If you see a link, please post.

It defunds PP, too. I literally hate these people. They are the actual opposite of pro-life.

Will do but this was discussed on tv and Sen. Schumer stated it which is what I based it on.

They are anti-abortion, but most of them are not pro-life. All though there is a non trivial subset that is both anti-abortion and pro-life.

That latter group is quite small. Modern republicans are pro-forced birth, but most definitely not pro-life.

There is definitely that group too. I think you are selling the other group short. I suspect it is bigger than you think.

Found it. Part of the waiver process so some states will keep it while others won't.

So far, 4 GOP senators stated they are voting no. For this bill to pass as is they need to change two no votes to yes.

I guess I had it backwards - maybe. The ultra-conservatives announced they're voting no as it stands. But Murkowski and Collins haven't said they're voting yes, and any changes that satisfy the far right will likely lose them. The article also mentions Dean Heller, up for re-election in purple Nevada, as one who's treading very lightly.

From the start I thought the window of "yes" to pass was extremely narrow. But the other side makes me think they are so desperate to get rid of the ACA, at some point compromise will push it through. My guess is to appease the extreme right

This is one of those failure is not an option things and they all know it. There may be lots of posturing and some compromising but it's going to pass.
