This is still infuriating months later. I remember be simultaneously confused and livid when it happened.

A would-be home run that was caught by a fielder, regardless of where he catches it, is not a home run.

I seem to recall Melky, when he was playing for us, robbed Manny Ramirez of a home run. Do you think that one should be added into Manny's lifetime stats?

I agree that one was robbed, but the culprit was not instant replay. Rather, it was the failure to interpret correctly what the replay showed.

Meh. I think Judge blasting 450+ HRs on baseball tonight changes things.

He just needs to keep this up.

Re: The Official 2017 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

I think that Judge's downfall was the post all-star break swoon. With a more consistent performance and the same numbers at the end, I think it would be a toss up. Judge's unworldly success over the first half set expectations unreasonably sky high. Even a cooling off would have been ok, but he was ice cold for 6 to 8 weeks. MAYBE, if he shatters McGuire's rookie record handily, say with 52 or 53 homers, he could still get the nod, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Re: The Official 2017 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

Assuming he isn't rested for a few games, I'd be very surprised if Judge doesn't hit another homer or two in the last 7 games.

Re: The Official 2017 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

Well, it seems more and more obvious that Judge wasn't right physically during his slump. His resurgence has coincided with the disappearance of the ice pack on his shoulder. Probably would have been better for the team, and for Judge, had he done a stint on the DL and gotten the shoulder right. Maybe we'd have won a few more games to take the AL East.

Hopefully he can at least make up for the lost ground with his stats and get to the 49 HR mark, and maybe 50.

I really, really, REALLY hope he does - I love round numbers and hate when I know something that's baseball-important due to record keeping isn't what it seems because a call was blown or people couldn't do their job (i.e. Johan Santana's "no-hitter").

He's at home, so I'm hopeful he can get it done, but I have this frustration already building about the prospect of him finishing at "48".

He won't be getting much to hit. Nobody wants to get tagged for the record HR.

it's not like he's getting much to hit anyway.

Re: The Official 2017 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

he not getting much to hit pitchers are still treating judge like they did the first half.. but unlike in july and august the one mistake pitch you get to hit during a at bat he is not missing them...

Seems that way, which is good news. A lot of us were wondering if he'd ever break out of this big time slump, lol.

That being said, I also think Judge was due to hit a slump in the 2nd half anyway. His 1st half stats were out of this world.

Basically you can't throw him a fastball at this point.

I would just throw all offspeed on the outside and either get him out or walk him.
