The Official 2017 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

It only took until Friday afternoon, February 24th, for me to get fired up about Aaron Judge in 2017. Damn I hope this guy is legit. This is an absolute bomb, and some lucky driver on Dale Mabry Highway came within inches of a smashed windshield.

It was such an easy swing and that ball was gone in an instant. My biggest fear though, is that Judge will continue struggling with the strikeout at the ML level and that will mean that we will get a heavy dose of Hicks instead. I know that it was talked about today how Judge has altered his swing and I just hopes that it translates to a solid year from him.

Here's a middle finger for all the scouting outlets that dropped him like a stone on their rankings. I want him to succeed first and foremost because he's a Yankee and his success is the team's success, but secondarily because of what I perceive to be a completely incongruent evaluation of him this with respect to their traditional methods.

Like you, I'm rooting for him all the way. I have no way of knowing if he's going to figure out how to make more contact with the baseball, but until that time he does seem to fit the stereotypical Pedro Cerrano profile. May Jobu bless his bat.

I loved the way the OF'ers didn't move.

Yet, Judge immediately turned towards 1b and started running, without admiring his shot and showing up the pitcher.

No one should doubt his power. The question is always whether he could make enough contact.

For those who didn't watch the game, there was a discussion of how Judge is working to strikeout less, with the idea that making more contact, by using a slightly shorter and quicker swing, won't affect his power since his 500 ft homers will still travel 450 feet. Reggie is working with him, and who knows strikeouts like Reggie?

Reggie knows quite a lot about homers also.

I loved Singleton's story about how he went with Judge to a frozen yogurt shop to continue counseling him.

I thought some of you might like to see a few of my traditional caps ... From yesterday's game (or rather, the "Drive of the Game" feature at the end):

Clint Frazier is on this prospects special on YES right now talking about Reggie taking him for frozen yogurt too. It must be his signature mentoring move.

Or maybe Reggie just really really likes frozen yogurt. The yogurt store probably has a flavor called "The Reggie".

Yeah, I thought afterwards that I might have misremembered. Though I thought I recalled the story being interrupted by Judge's home run, and Kay saying, "So, Reggie told him to swing at that pitch and hit it five thousand feet and while you're up there, get me a strawberry yogurt" ... or something to that effect.

Judge and Frazier look so much alike, too!

Probably. The cases of Reggie Bars he keeps in his car finally went stale.

hmm his uppercut swing is a point of interest. i had said that raising the zone a bit might help him but maybe he really needs to improve on the inside and up parts of the plate. this is confirmed by his zone profile

Wonder what teams would offer for him right now.

    Just curious.

Best win the RF job. We need to start disposing of Ells and Gardner.

So far this spring, Frazier is doing his best to help out on that end.

I'd be curious to know that too, but when Judge's name was being slung around as one chip in hypothetical trade packages involving numerous chips for guys like Quintana, I cringed every time.

He may bust, but this team should not be dealing potentially legit RH power bat with his athleticism and upside at this point in time.

So, tying back to your question, IMHO almost certainly not enough for me to be intrigued.

Because he has untapped potential just like a Jackie Bradley Jr.
