He would have really broken Ruth's (= the real) record, most likely.

So what is the explanation for his improvement in September? The injury was still there obviously. Did the loose body move to a more advantageous spot? And what about the cartilage?

perhaps his tolerance for the pain increased over that time.. we all know he looked bad after the first half.. that when he injured his shoulder...

Shoulders are tricky. I've had both of mine cleaned up. You can go for lengths of time where it feels normal, gets bad, feels normal.....etc.

if he's playing hurt again, i honestly wouldn't be surprised to read about him getting some sort of surgery in the off-season

He probably got a cortisone shot, but we just didn't hear about it in the news... ideally, you don't want to get more than one during the course of the season, so it makes sense that he waited until September

He'll be the Yankees first baseman in a few years once Bird's leg falls off.

I'm still having trouble understanding how relief pitchers are awarded the CY Young. No way can I wrap my head around a reliever as MVP.

And the 1984 Tigers were such a great team can't see how the writers thought Hernandez was the MVP of that team.

That's just the way it seems to go in Yankeeland sometimes. See Bird, Greg.

They have discussed giving him a shot. That is documented. If its causing pain, its a low cost, low risk option.

For the sake of discussion, I'll share a little personal history. I messed up my shoulder in the military. We tried the whole rest, ice, heat, therapy, repeat for 6 months. For some reason, they didn't want to do the shot, but I didn't press for it either. They told me the same things, "It doesn't work for everyone", "It's not good to take multiple shots in the same area for an extended period of time", etc. I'm sure that's true. But, finally they relented after 6 months. After an MRI which found a torn labrum, I was told they could do surgery or do a shot and see if it helped. Funny how we went from not recommending the shot to surgery. Regardless, I took the shot, did more rest, therapy, ice and heat and haven't needed surgery. It still acts up now and then, but its tolerable.

Now I was dealing with military doctors, probably more like PA's, not an organization that has immediate access to the best specialists in the country. Maybe he needs the off-season to fully heal. That's what I'm hoping for, because in my opinion all the indications are he is playing hurt. I am not professing to be an expert. I am just taking into account how the Yankees handle some things, and some of my own personal experience.

    lol..

Yea, our medical staff is a complete sh...show. Tex/Bird/Castro/Holliday are some recent examples of their injuries being completely mishandled.
