Funny you mention that CF, because I was having this same discussion the other day. We obviously have the chips to land him, but at what cost.

On your list we've kept all the potential studs - what's the package right now - Frazier/Rutherford/Kap/Mateo+?

o i forgot rutherford. i'd take rutherford over judge.

frazier and mateo are goners. i'm rather reluctant to trade away pitchers though.

i'd hope that judge does well this year and his value balloons because of the power aura.

Have several doctors in my family who entirely disagree. Just as possible it was a single incident.

Why is Frazier a goner? If he turns out to be as good as advertised then no reason to trade the farm for Trout. And if Judge turns out to be a keeper maybe Yankees pass on Harper too and spend the money on Machado and starting pitching.

    Thanks.
Why was Pineda credited with the win today?

frazier has had plenty of time to tone down his swing, which is a bit of a mess. he hasn't done it yet. the defense is not that good at cf so he's kind of a surplus given the rest of our roster.

Frazier will have a season at triple AAA to work on his swing.

Trout's generational, maybe the best ever when he's done. Trading a package with Frazier is a no brainer.

We should be trying to trade a Frazier package for Quintana.

Ideally Trout opts out and becomes a FA.

Could say the same thing about a Trout trade.

if the yankees put enough on the scale it could happen, especially if they include someone who is generating hype so that the PR fallout is manageable for the angels.

    Re: 2017 Spring Training Thread

There is no way the Angels trade Trout without Gleyber and Sanchez being involved. Zero chance.

And I hope Didi isn't hurt too seriously. He was raking in the WBC.

    Re: 2017 Spring Training Thread

we could trade them a package that they can sell, and also a package that is better than other suitors would be able to muster.

you can have didi in there too. maybe angels are dumb enough to think of castro as an asset if he hits 25 homers lul

you absolutely have to attempt an offer this deadline.

At what point is the package you're giving up TOO much for Trout?

the neat thing is that the yankees have a lot of surplus, 2-3 win type players/prospects. angels have gigantic blackholes throughout their roster so they are the one team that would value our depth.

Trout is like a 10 WAR player. Even if a few of those prospects hit to become 2-3 WAR seasonal guys, which is insanely unlikely in itself, you still don't equal 1 Mike Trout in value.

I'm all for trying but I think what it takes makes us turn into the Angels.

I think the best chance we have is Trout opts out of his contract. This would make the most sense for him.

    There isn't one.

I mean, I understand the question/sentiment, and a package including Gleyber as one of several blue chippers would hurt, but you're getting a player who is rightfully in the conversation of Greatest Player Ever as he enters his prime. This guy is a consistent 9-10 win player. It's hard to grasp just how immensely productive he is at times.

we make an enticing offer, not an absurd one. there's a lot of surplus depth in the system and a lot of guys that are near majors ready. could definitely do a deal that benefits both sides

plus, angels are not the smartest guys so gotta try to hoodwink them. they'll suck for at least 3 years without a trade. don't think trout would just let a legit chance to go to the yankees slip up.

With the youth movement that started last summer, I couldn't help but think about this another way. Suppose we had Trout right now (yes he's also young), but considered trading him for another package of youngsters. Would we trade him for this package?

You still likely don't equal the value of Mike Trout.
