Are we sure Jon Gruden is still a good coach? He's been out of the game for how many years now? Sure he's in the booth but that's not a 80hour work week that head coaches need to put in. Last time he coached the game was dramatically different.

I guess if they want to offer him part ownership, he'd be dumb to say no, but they're offering a lot to a guy who hasn't done squat in 15 years.

    Re: 2017 NFL Season Thread

Andy Reid and his conservative ways burned him in the playoffs...again.

The Tennessee Titans rallied from an 18-point deficit to advance to the AFC Divisional Round, stunning the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead 22-21.

The Chiefs led 21-3 at halftime when Kareem Hunt had a one-yard touchdown run and Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes to Travis Kelce and DeMarcus Robinson.

However, Kelce had to leave the game with a concussion.

Marcus Mariota chipped away at the deficit with a touchdown pass to himself and a 22-yard strike to Eric Decker and Derrick Henry, who had 156 rushing yards in the win, had a 35-yard touchdown run.

Another heartbreaking playoff loss for the Chiefs.

The Titans will either go to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots if the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Buffalo Bills or Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers if the Bills triumph.

    Re: 2017 NFL Season Thread

Just like the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Rams decided to rest their starters one week before playing their NFL Wild Card playoff game.

However, Los Angeles' first playoff game since 1994 was a defeat as the young Rams were doubled up by the experienced Atlanta Falcons 26-13.

Matt Ryan completed 21 of 30 passes for 218 yards and a eight-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones.

Devonta Freeman added 66 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Jared Goff completed 24 of 45 passes for 259 yards and a touchdown while Todd Gurley II added 101 rushing yards.

However, the Rams had two turnovers to the Falcons none.

The Falcons will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles at the Linc as the lower seed while the winner of the Carolina Panthers-New Orleans Saints game take on the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Divisional Playoff Round.

The Jacksonville Jaguars win their first playoff game since 2007 as they broke Buffalo Bills' hearts with a 10-3 victory in a defensive struggle.

Blake Bortles didn't have a good day throwing the football as he completed 12 of 23 passes for 87 yards, but did throw a one-yard touchdown pass to Ben Koyack and also used his legs with 88 rushing yards.

Tyrod Taylor left the game late in the fourth quarter with a head injury during their last drive after throwing for 134 yards and an interception.

Nathan Peterman threw the game-ending interception that saw the Bills have to wait another to break their playoff win drought.

Jacksonville will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday afternoon while the Tennessee Titans take on the New England Patriots in Foxborough Saturday night.

I think either Andy Reid or Alex Smith has to go in KC. They have reached their expiration date as a QB/Coach team. My guess is Smith is gone since they have that kid as a backup ready to go. I wonder where Smith will end up. Maybe Arizona.

    As for Jacksonville....

it's entire conceivable that the Patriots may lose their head coach, offensive and defensive coordinator, and have their starting quarterback fall off next year without a viable replacement

that would be quite a sudden fall

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints advance to the NFC Divisional Round.

The Saints held off the Carolina Panthers 31-26 and will take on the Minnesota Vikings inside US Bank Stadium.

Brees completed 23 of 33 passes for 376 yards and two touchdowns despite throwing the only interception of the game.

Cam Newton had 349 yards and two touchdowns on 24 of 40 completions, but was sacked four times.

What a joke the "concussion protocol" is. There's no way Cam wasn't concussed there and yet he's back in the game 10 minutes later? He shouldn't be allowed to sue the league in 20 years.

How can you tell? I mean he always looks pissed.

Personally I think this story is a big nothing burger and I agree with those who say Bill ain't going nowhere.

Now if he is really is pissed he may leave when Brady retires and tell Kraft to take a hike because he now has no QB but as long as Brady is playing at MVPish levels and he has near total control of the Patriots why on earth would he leave?

I guess we'll see in the off season.

Part of the Patriot success has been Tom Brady NOT taking max money and working out more cap friendly deals. That success would have been hard with the QB position taking close to $35M in cap space with both of them. With Brady expressing desire to play 3-5 more years after this keeping them both was not a realistic option unless they franchised Garapalo which would have been around $22M if I recall right.

So the option was trade Garapalo for "next to nothing" or trade Brady after the season in which he may win the MVP and quite possibly another NE ring.

I realize the Niners were in a similar position back with Montana/Young but Brady doesn't have near the medical problem Montana had.
