And I see he went after my Senator Chris Murphy on twitter today with not so subtly wanting Barr to investigate him. I'd hate to get on Trump's enemies list now that he's allowed to do pretty much whatever he wants.

Russia Backs Trump’s Re-election, and He Fears Democrats Will Exploit Its Support
A classified briefing to lawmakers angered the president, who complained that Democrats would “weaponize” the disclosure.
Intelligence officials warned House lawmakers last week that Russia was interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get President Trump re-elected, five people familiar with the matter said, in a disclosure that angered Mr. Trump, who complained that Democrats would use it against him.

The day after the Feb. 13 briefing to lawmakers, Mr. Trump berated Joseph Maguire, the outgoing acting director of national intelligence, for allowing it to take place, people familiar with the exchange said. Mr. Trump cited the presence in the briefing of Representative Adam B. Schiff, the California Democrat who led the impeachment proceedings against him, as a particular irritant.

During the briefing to the House Intelligence Committee, Mr. Trump’s allies challenged the conclusions, arguing that Mr. Trump has been tough on Russia and strengthened European security. Some intelligence officials viewed the briefing as a tactical error, saying that had the official who delivered the conclusion spoken less pointedly or left it out, they would have avoided angering the Republicans.

That intelligence official, Shelby Pierson, is an aide to Mr. Maguire who has a reputation of delivering intelligence in somewhat blunt terms. The president announced on Wednesday that he was replacing Mr. Maguire with Richard Grenell, the ambassador to Germany and long an aggressively vocal Trump supporter.
Of course Russia wants Trump to win again. Why wouldn't they?

The scary part of this is A) he learns that a foreign entity is meddling in our elections and his first instinct is to get angry at how it makes him look bad and not get angry that the nation he "leads" is under attack and B) he replaced the guy who delivered the news with yet another sycophant.

This reminds me of how Obama rose above his responsibility to alert the American Public the 2016 election season was under attack by Russians.

That's disturbing as hell. (As am I.)

I just finished reading The Impeachers: The Trial of Andrew Johnson and the Dream of a Just Nation which was an excellent book about the Johnson administration. The old adage is true - history repeats itself. It's amazing. I want to share some passages I highlighted while reading the book that resonated to today.

Johnson was a proud, vain, and insecure man who distrusted almost everyone, and his talent for pitting himself against almost everyone, his friend Welles went on to say, would pillory him and warp the course of the entire country for years and years to come.
The essayist Edwin Whipple said Johnson listened only to news that justified what he already thought—and anyway the man didn’t understand the Constitution he professed to love so much.
Senator Sumner reminded colleagues. “Search history and I am sure that you will find no ruler who, during the same short space of time, had done so much mischief to his country.”
“History will record that Andrew Johnson was convicted by the country, though it will be compelled to relate how he escaped the consequences of his crimes through the weakness of dishonored Senators.”

President Donald Trump pushed aside his acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, because he was angry about a briefing to lawmakers that said Russia is interfering in the 2020 election to aid his re-election, current and former intelligence officials briefed on the matter told NBC News.

At issue was an election briefing to House members last week by Shelby Pierson, the DNI's election security czar. The news was first reported by the New York Times. The briefing infuriated Trump, current and former officials said.
The next day, Trump erupted at Maguire in the Oval Office, demanding to know why lawmakers were briefed n the Russia intelligence, current and former officials said, adding that Trump was concerned the Democrats would use the information against him.The episode has raised the specter that Trump is punishing intelligence officials for providing accurate intelligence to members of Congress who are cleared to receive it.
The President is literally running interference to help Russia intervene in our election on his behalf, using the enormous power of incumbency.

This is scary and a good segment of the American people don't give a damn and they will pay for not being concern.

Trump’s New Spy Chief Used to Work for a Foreign Politician the U.S. Accused of Corruption
Richard Grenell did not disclose payments for advocacy work on behalf of a Moldovan politician whom the U.S. later accused of corruption. His own office’s policy says that could leave him vulnerable to blackmail.
Seems exactly like the kind of person we should have in charge of the entire US intelligence apparatus.

And he's "acting" so no pesky Senate confirmation. Another "norm" that has stood intact for decades demolished by this con man.
