    Re: President Donald Trump

One thing that the Republicans never talk about is that when President Obama first took office the Republicans had us on the brink of a depression that was reported to have the potential to be more severe than the 1929 depression. President Obama took unpopular but courageous and necessary steps to set the economy back on a good course.
They will never tell you haw badly they screwed up by giving the Financial industry full reign.

They want to give Wall Street even more leeway than they had in the early 00's.

They also voted down the first stimulus plan because they didn't want to give Obama a "win".

Iíll just add this, Steve: itís possible to respond to serious posts that you respect and ignore the noise. There are people whose posts I just scroll past immediately, or whose posts I read with no intention of responding regardless of what they say.

Trump is a racist. All the dancing around the subject the media does in order to appear fair is actually the opposite of fair. I find it gross that heís been obsessed with NFL players kneeling while talking about Dr King today. Any white politician who is opposed to NFL players kneeling while speaking glowingly about MLK is either being phony or have no idea who King was.

I am at a loss to understand how anyone can respect trump.

He not only is a racist, he's also a bigot and perhaps the biggest liar that ever was in the White House. He certainly doesn't respect Women, far from it. He blames everyone else for any problem that arises. He has absolutely no respect for our past presidents.
He does everything he can to help big business at the expense of the environment, worker safety, and the safety of the medicines we take.
He hates President Obama so much that he went out of his way to try to repeal all of President Obama's executive orders.
He wants his goddamned Wall so badly that he will hold up America by refusing to pass a budget, refuse to insure that the "dreamers" can stay rightfully in the US.

I could go on and on but his supporters won't hear and trump's detractors already know.

The Republican party is rotten to the core. There is nothing this guy can do that they won't defend. It makes no sense when you have a legitimate, competent, actual Conservative sitting in the VP mansion just waiting to take over.

"No sense" is a bridge too far. While I agree with most criticisms of Trump, and I find the Party members' insistence the Emperor is clothed to be contemptible, I can understand the reluctance to prosecute an Impeachment, if only for the rick of alienating that segment of support that backed Donnie but no one else. They could lose a lot of votes in 2020, or even 2018, if they impeach him without a real smoking gun.

Add that to the loss of credibility accruing to all those who have backed him up to now, and the decision to can him and install Pence is hardly a no-brainer.

I agree. Impeachment is not an innocuous procedure. There are legal and political hurdles can make it take years. The country is in limbo during that period. It's not pretty and it's not healthy. We all suffer. Much as I hate him, it would take more than what we have seen so far for me to support impeachment.

Trump breaks with past presidents on MLK Day activities

    .................................................

While Trump urged Americans last Friday to observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with acts of civic work and community service to honor the life of the civil rights legend, it doesnít appear he'll be doing the same, with no public events listed on his schedule. The White House didn't immediately respond to requests for further details on how Trump spent his day.

Past Republican and Democratic presidents have done some form of commemoration for King's life of service on the holiday during their time in office.

    ................................................................

In 1994, then-President Bill Clinton signed legislation to designate the federal holiday as a national day of service. He also did volunteer work himself in subsequent years, including a day he spent painting the walls at a Washington, D.C., high school in 1998 and joining AmeriCorps volunteers in painting a senior center in 2001.

And former President Barack Obama and his family made it an annual tradition to participate in some type of service event, from working at a soup kitchen to painting a mural at a family shelter.

Hundreds of demonstrators, including many from the Haitian community, greeted Trump today in West Palm Beach. They called for the president to apologize for his controversial comments reportedly made during a recent Oval Office meeting on immigration reform. ........................

Trump's America Is A ................hole Country
By Danielle Campoamor On 1/15/18 at 7:00 AM

His insult reveals something else to the public, something arguably more insidious and dangerous to our democracy. Trump's vulgar comment lays bare his total ignorance about the country he now leads. Because, by many standards, the United States, is, in fact, a ................hole country.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 23,000 infants died in the United States in 2015. The U.S. has the worst rate of maternal deaths in the developed world, and black women in America are three times more likely to die during childbirth than white women. Those rates are continuing to rise, while they decline elsewhere. An American woman giving birth is three times more likely to die than a Canadian woman, and six times more likely to die than a Scandinavian woman.

A 2017 analysis by the CDC Foundation found that nearly 60 percent of all maternal deaths were completely preventable. And yet, Trump and the complicit Republican Party tried, on three separate occasions, to repeal the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obamaís signature health care bill that gave over 13 million women access to maternity services.

In December, the United Nations began investigating extreme poverty in the U.S., the worldís richest country. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 41 million Americans live in poverty, with the top one percent of Americans controlling 38 percent of the nationís wealth. Now that the GOP tax bill has been signed into law, our nationís wealth inequality will only increase.

Normally we're on the same page, but I disagree. He's proven himself incompetent, unwilling to learn, and racist at every turn. He's a proud sexual predator who degrades women. He pays hush money to porn stars. He's in bed with the Russians. I think there's more than enough, but that's just my opinion.

The maternal and infant mortality rates in this country are absolutely appalling. Every developed nation has lower rates than we do. The risks for black mothers are especially egregious. (Even a superstar like Serena Williams nearly died after childbirth recently.) This has so much to do with income inequality and lack of access to healthcare, plus straight up racism. Medical professionals don't listen to black people, especially black women.

This is a really good article on the subject:
