We get it. You're an alt-left liberal. No need to keep reminding everyone here. You even had to qualify your post on the shooting of Scalise by reminding everyone of your political views and how you don't agree with his (really?!), as if it mattered and was relevant. How nice of you.
I have no idea the purpose of your rant in the original post other than your hatred of Kamila Harris did you have a point you were trying to make?

Here is a nice summary of benefits that are restricted and some that they may have access too. Other than emergency Medicaid they are eligible to receive almost nothing else from the federal government.

States and local governments do bear a higher cost since even illegal immigrants must be given access to K-12 education. We can debate whether or not that is good policy but it's not a federal dollars issue so not really relevant to Trump's claims.

I think Trump's comments were about legal immigrants. The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act prevented them from receiving benefits for five(?) years. There have been some changes since it's inception and I believe conditional waivers are available at the state level.

For me, the point is more why do we not want to help people that need help? If someone immigrated to the US legally and ran into difficulty, let's help them. Let's help their kids. This is just another version of the welfare queen. Immigrants are not coming here to free load. Trump is looking for a solution without a problem to please his xenophobic base.

It takes a very special, evil person to get me to agree with Bret Stephens, but Trump's done it.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/16/o...rica.html?_r=0

In the matter of immigration, mark this conservative columnist down as strongly pro-deportation. The United States has too many people who don’t work hard, don’t believe in God, don’t contribute much to society and don’t appreciate the greatness of the American system.

They need to return whence they came.

I speak of Americans whose families have been in this country for a few generations. Complacent, entitled and often shockingly ignorant on basic points of American law and history, they are the stagnant pool in which our national prospects risk drowning.

On point after point, America’s nonimmigrants are failing our country. Crime? A study by the Cato Institute notes that nonimmigrants are incarcerated at nearly twice the rate of illegal immigrants, and at more than three times the rate of legal ones.

Educational achievement? Just 17 percent of the finalists in the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search — often called the “Junior Nobel Prize” — were the children of United States-born parents. At the Rochester Institute of Technology, just 9.5 percent of graduate students in electrical engineering were nonimmigrants.
Bottom line: So-called real Americans are screwing up America. Maybe they should leave, so that we can replace them with new and better ones: newcomers who are more appreciative of what the United States has to offer, more ambitious for themselves and their children, and more willing to sacrifice for the future. In other words, just the kind of people we used to be — when “we” had just come off the boat.

How are we going to pay for it? It's easy to say "let's help them," but when you've already spent your kids tax dollars and your grandchildren's tax dollars, you need to complete the sentence. "Let's help them, using money from _______."

Defense? OK, but you need to bring troops home first.
Decrease to foreign aid? Might that be un-helping one group in order to help another?
Tax increases? Suddenly, "help them" just became a harder sell for the American people.
Just increase the debt by another couple trillion? Another hard sell.

If we're already spending a lot more than we bring in, "helping people" becomes problematical.

Simple. Stop subsidizing corporations. Stop having every bill be at it's essence about giving people with seven figure incomes a tax cut.

We collect billions of dollars in taxes from both legal and illegal immigrants but if a legal immigrant falls on hard times we just say too bad, foreigner, go back where you came from?

We spend far more than we collect. There is no money left. Not only is there no money left, but we've spent trillions that doesn't exit. So, let's spend some more! There are people who need it.

All of this talk about the immigrant problem - both legal and illegal - misses the point. We have the resources to deal with immigrants however we choose to do so.

The focus on immigration is a strategy to keep us in a state of fear in order to justify massive spending on weapons so that arms manufacturers can make obscene profits. This has been going on for 70 years. 80% of "foreign aid" goes into arms sales. More money to the war profiteers.

Ordinary citizens should stop arguing abou left vs right. That's what they want. It's a distraction that's used to divide us so that we don't focus on our common interests.

They keep pushing Iran, Syria, and ultimately Russia, despite those countries having much more skin in the game, and therefore ultimately much more motivation to not back down. And they're not backing down. Russia threatening to shoot down coalition aircraft has already made the Australians withdraw from Syria. Iran has shot some missiles off. If they keep playing these stupid f*cking games, eventually you're going to have American forces engaging Russian forces.

Meanwhile, Trump is contradicting the state department as it tries to deescalate the regional split the GCC and Qatar/Iran/Turkey. It's a catastrophe waiting to happen, and it doesn't help that Tillerson has been an non-entity, unable to stand up to the lunatic allegedly running the country.
A little late, but I wanted to second this post - except I think the rest is pretty alarming, too.
