This is the equivalent of Congress caring more about who Deep Throat was than what happened at the Watergate Hotel and its aftermath.

    Please, conservatives, defend this.

    Re: President Donald Trump

Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, appeared at least somewhat skeptical of the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia had a “clear preference” for Trump, asking when that conclusion was reached.

Comey said that was a “fairly easy judgment” for the community, given that Russian President Vladimir Putin “hated Secretary Clinton so much.” We’ll just quote the following exchange:

Conaway: “That might work on Saturday afternoon when my wife’s [Texas Tech] Red Raiders are playing the Texas Longhorns — she really likes the Red Raiders. … The logic is that because [Putin] really didn’t like presidential candidate Clinton that he automatically liked Trump? That assessment is based on what?”

Comey: “It’s based on more than that, but part of it … is the logic. Whoever the Red Raiders are playing, you want the Red Raiders to win, by definition you want their opponents to lose.”

Conaway: “I know, but this says … [Russia] wanted both of them, her to lose and him to win.”

    Comey: “They’re inseparable. It’s a two-person thing.”

Conaway: “I’m just wondering when you decided [Russia] wanted him to win.”

Comey: “Well, logically, when they wanted her to lose.”
    Sounds familiar.

lol just lol. putin has it out for hillary ever since she called out the 1990 apartment building bombing as a fsb political operation. (which was our intel assessment based on sigint intercepts btw)

    information warfare.

hillary isn't that good at this stuff, but some of her people are probably better. though, the major building block of any sort of american grand strategy has to start at home, by making the people genuinely feel that our society is giving them a fair shot, or at least has the potential for reform.

Mike Pence to receive 'Working for Women' award from Kellyanne Conway's conservative women's group

Vice President Mike Pence will be awarded the “Working for Women” honor from the Independent Women’s Forum Wednesday despite years of working to hurt women.

According to a release sent to New York Magazine, “the award recognizes an individual who values free markets, works to create a more dynamic and innovative work world, and celebrates the valuable contributions women make to society,” Jezebel reported Sunday.

Pence was the real extremist on the ticket with a long list of victims. After fighting to take down Planned Parenthood in Congress for Indiana, he became governor and took it to a state level.

Pence led the GOP’s efforts to destroy Planned Parenthood with six pieces of legislation in just six years. He went so far as to threaten to shut down the government if Planned Parenthood continued to be funded. He not only cut needle exchange programs to provide clean needles to addicts, he then worked to shut down clinics where people could get free HIV/AIDS testing. The result was an HIV outbreak, which he ignored for two months before being forced to act.

    From the Intel hearing:

    - no evidence of Obama wiretapping 45* and his tower. Comey, Rogers and the DOJ in agreement.

    - IC investigation of Russia/45* began in July 2016.

    - Exon (Tillerson) and Russia's #2 close relationship. Went on a Russian tour together to promote additional oil drilling in Russia.

    - Gowdy is angry at leakers.

And the WH put out a statement (not a tweet) Hearing has changed nothing.

If I recall correctly, he opened his questioning going swing state by swing state, asking if each one had their voting machines hacked. He basically wanted a talking point against an argument no one was making.

"The Russians interfered in the election."
"There is no proof any voting machines were tampered with!"

the other side of this putin business is that casting everything in our political life as 'russian' or 'anti-russian' is also severely detrimental.

as a frequent critic of various wildly inaccurate or exaggerated presentations of certain leakers and civil liberty defenders etc, it would be a severe mistake to think that all leakers and whistleblowers are to be seen as primarily undermining our system, even if they do accomplish such effect. it's important to still take the civil liberty and whatnot positive value they bring seriously.

similarly for political discourse, political diversity and so on.

however, it is rather difficult to parse the landscape when there are indeed many actors with destabilization on their minds.

    He's still at it.

After a lengthy discussion of why the intelligence community concluded that Russia was attempting to help Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton, the committee chairman attempted to turn to a broader question — whether Russia, historically, has supported Republicans over Democrats.

The transition appeared to confuse Comey and Rogers.

“Don’t you think it’s ridiculous for anyone to say that the Russians prefer Republicans over Democrats?” Nunes asked.

“I didn’t think that’s what you just heard us say,” Rogers said.

“I hope you didn’t hear us say that,” Comey said.

“Don’t you think it would be a little preposterous, historically, going back to Ronald Reagan” to suggest that the Kremlin had a bias toward Republicans, Nunes pressed.

This was when I turned it off. Too much grandstanding by the politicians asking the questions- not just Sewell. Questions have been too wordy, only to find out the Director cannot or will not answer them.

Gowdy has an attitude because he's sitting in the lower tier (kid's table.) He fondly remembers the days when he had the middle seat in the big boyz tier. He misses the countless Benghazi hours of repetitive questions.

It was addressed at the hearing. Craziness.

During this hearing, the official @POTUS Twitter account — separate from Trump’s personal account — has repeatedly tweeted clips from the hearing, with occasionally misleading statements about what the videos show.

That clip includes Comey and Rogers verifying that there is no evidence that votes cast during the election were directly altered by Russia. That’s not the same as there being “no influence” on the electoral process, as Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., noted during the hearing.

Himes read the tweet aloud and asked Comey and Rogers to respond. They noted that they have not evaluated whether Russia’s efforts to influence the election were successful.

“We’ve offered no opinion, have no view, have no information on potential impact because it’s never something that we looked at,” Comey said.

“It certainly wasn’t our intention to say that today,” he said. “We don’t have any information on that subject.”
