Nice to see Solak get some love. Now how about moving him to Trenton?

Is Caleb Smith's season real? I didn't really care if we lost him in Rule V at the time.

Rogers got destroyed and Clarkin didn't fare well, either.

Espinal looked good in relief of Clarkin though, going 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.

    Frazier: 1-5, 3B
    Austin: 2-4, 2B, BB

    Ford:

And what's the deal with Caleb Smith? Is he a sleeper starting prospect or something? Is this Montgomery II, where a lefty is screaming "I'm good!!!" with his results but people take a while to realize it? His numbers in SWB this year rival Chance's. Today he turned in

    6 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K

    on the year now:

    76 IP, 55 H, 19 BB, 72 K, 2.25 ERA

The Cubs took him in the Rule 5, but returned him in March. It's looking super fortunate for the Yankees that they did...

Sounds like Clarkin had a rough start but finished strong:
    LHP Ian Clarkin: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 7/5 GB/FB, 1 E (pickoff) 59 of 81 pitches were strikes (73%) allowed four runs in the first two innings, then retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced

    Ford hit another HR tonight.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

Just looking at Caleb's splits. Reading reports saying he's always been a reverse split guy.

Maybe he's coming up for something against lefties, holding them to a .524 OPS (.603 righties).

Re: 2017 Yankee minor league news and notes..

For me, one of the most intriguing story line is Carroll. There's plenty of relief prospects who throw hard. It's nothing unusual.

But it's the way his profile has "popped up". And the dominant stuff he's shown since the reported velocity spike after the May 1st outing. The before and after are striking.

    From 4/8/17 to 4/26/17
    7 high-A appearances: 2 K/BB, 1.1 HR/9, 1.92 WHIP, 5.40 ERA

    From 5/1/17 to 6/23/17
    6 high-A and 7 AA appearances: 9.75 K/BB, 0 HR/9, 0.52 WHIP, 0.31 ERA

One day, he's a run-of-the-mill reliever. Likely sitting low-90s. Nothing special. Next day, he's sitting upper-90s and blowing away hitters. He probably needs a challenge at the next level.

Can someone give background on him? How is his stuff? How does he compare with Montgomery? Is he worth protecting in rule 5 or is he a AAAA player?

Went to the SI Yankee game last night. I really liked Cabrera a lot at SS. He looks smooth and gets rid of the ball quick, not a gun but gets it there. At the plate he is more advanced then most for Penn league players. Folks looks like another good SS prospect. LOL.
Vargas was the stater for us, No gun, but i was told he was mid 90's. Vargas is 6-4 and comes over the top with some down movement but needs secondary stuff to advance. What was nice was him trying what looked like a CU in progress but was after an inning getting hit. Could at this level get by on his FB.
Thompson -Williams is interesting. A good athlete with some skills. Clocked him to first 3.9 on a ground out. One downer was Molina's arm in CF. Wet noodle..
The Rays have quite a glove at SS in Deion Tansel.

Daniel Alvarez goes tonight, with Johny Brito tomorrow and Guzman on Monday. Should a fun three-game set.

Thanks Rob. I was watching Luis Cedeno warm up and saw him go from a 3/4 slot to a submarine delivery. He never came in the game but i was curious as to his true delivery slot. From the Sub slot he was throwing a crazy Frisbee slider with pepper...

I did notice the complete change in his delivery on opening day when he pitched, it looks like that is what he is sticking to now is that submarine/side arm slot. Very interesting to see the change, I haven't had the time to talk to him about it yet.

That's good, the one and a third innings I saw from him on Tuesday was not good. He was all over the place and didn't look comfortable out there but that was his first apperance back.
