Re: 2017 Yankee minor league news and notes..

Given the robust nature of the farm system currently and teams liking to dip into other's pools when they see success, a lot of teams are a threat to hire guys away.

Jeter will essentially be the President of the Marlins, likely hire a VP and a GM to run the team on the day to day basis while remaining the key decision maker with final say.
I would imagine that they will target a young guy who is up and coming to run things and revamp their farm.

5'10, 163 lb, Deivi Garcia, who just turned 18 in May:

    5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K

His combined numbers across DSL/GCL/Appy this year are impressive, to say the least:

    51.1 IP, 33 H, 11 BB, 72 K

and the best part is they've gotten noticeably better at each level, not the reverse.

I'm hoping Butterfield is the new Yankee MGR next season.

Solak and Thairo both keep hitting, each 3-4 so far tonight.

He's one of my sleeper picks next year. Could jump into top 100 at the end of next season.

Trenton down one headed to the bottom of the 9th, Solak doubles home the tying run.

How is Solak's defense? The bat looks phenomenal for 2B, but it's a bit more difficult to track how defense comes along for prospects.

    Pipeline:

After DHing as a freshman and playing mostly the outfield corners as a sophomore, Solak shifted to second base last spring. He has the quickness and reliable hands for the position, though he doesn't have the smoothest actions and some scouts believe he's destined for center field. The Yankees love his gamer makeup and his work ethic, noting his diligence in trying to improve his footwork and agility at second.

    2080 Baseball:

As a defender, Solak is able to make the routine plays with average agility, hands and fielding actions, but he is slightly limited by his fringe-average range and fringy-but-playable arm strength. Hes a converted outfielder, so I would expect some projection here as he acclimates to the position. Hes not going to wow you with his defensive ability, but there is enough there to hold the position if his development curve continues in the right direction. Hes also an above-average runner (4.2 second home-to-first base times) with plus base-running instincts to be able to score from first on a double, and steal the occasional base (hes 8-for-12 this year)

From what I've seen of him, especially last year, he will have no problem handling the position on a regular basis. Not going to be a gold glove type, but will make all the plays he gets to.

    KLaw Chat:

Q: I know you think Domingo Acevedo is a reliever because of the delivery. That said, do you think he can become an elite closer type?
KLaw: Tough to say; I haven't seen the huge second pitch that you might expect but he does have the elite fastball for it.

Q: Acevedo is know to have a really good changeup why do you say he has no secondary stuff?
KLaw: Because I've seen him multiple times.

At this time of his development i will have to agree with Law on this one. Ace seems to have issues opening up and repeating his delivery. I think at AAA he could have issues starting. It could come though but as of now I agree with Law.
