Sorry to see Deglan has a sore shoulder. I hope it's just a strain. The kid is a real good catcher and great insurance.

I saw that on Twitter earlier today. With all due respect, I completely disagree with the premise of that article. Mateo is coming off a down year but still has a lot of upside. Let's see how he rebounds in 2017 before we relegate him to trade bait. Even with Torres ahead of him on the SS depth chart, there is no reason why he cannot be groomed to take over 2B.

Agreed 100%. Mateo still has monster prospect potential.

Or make the move to CF. I totally agree with you.

That blog post missed the plot completely.

Agreed, and the Refsnyder comparison in the article did not make sense either. Refsnyder never had Mateo's upside or prospect status. There is no parallel there.

On top of all of that, I reject the notion NY needs to trade for young pitching. There are so many candidates in the system, let's give them a chance. We will likely need five guys by 2018, but there are waves of possibilities:

    Severino/Mitchell/Cessa/Green/Warren
    Adams/Montgomery
    Kaprielian/Sheffield/Abreu/Acevedo

Plus Littell, Tate, Clarkin, other guys lower down...

Personally, I am not ready to give up on him, he has the talent, but his attitude leaves a lot to be desired. I am hoping he turns it around and I hope the time in Spring Training with Gary Sanchez helps him out in that regard. Though I still hear several things that leave me wondering if that suspension last year worked or not.

As for why trade him for pitching, simple you can never have too much pitching. I think we have learned by now that pitching is difficult to develop and if we can get something good back I would trade him. But at this point I am not ready to trade him for the sake of trading him.

I do agree we need to start thinning the herd a little. Not so much with pitching but position players. If we don't move some guys this year we will have a R5 blood bath... I would really look to evaluate and move some players for CB picks or IFA cash.

Agree with you there we need to clear out Rule 5 eligible players and the 40-Man space. I believe we can trade for an extra 50% in IFA spending and select draft picks. I would love to get one of those.

Rob- how has Austin DeCarr looked this spring? I have a bit of personal interest in him and was just wondering what his ceiling might look like now that he is "back" from TJS. Obviously, remaining healthy is the biggest concern. Thanks.

Have not seen him this spring yet. MiLB camp just opened yesterday and games don't start until March 17. At that point, we will have writers down there to get reports. We won't be there everyday but more than in the past.

On the flip side, you were treated to this chart:

    Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA
