Stupid Stanford. They came back from 6 down with under a minute to go.

What a train wreck Indiana has become this year. Declining to have a home NIT game because Assembly Hall is too iconic and did not want to devalue that building due to a sparse crowd, is stupidity at its best. Then why accept the invitation at all if Indiana is so "above" it all?

Who made that decision? Crean? Players? AD?

How about Knight's comment that he hopes the guys that fired him are all dead now?!

You guys have your own version of the Bronx Zoo going on there!

From what the AD Fred Glass said yesterday, it was an administrative decision made two weeks ago, before Indiana even knew it was going to get a home game for certain. When Indiana was first announced in the NIT, a lame story came out that they were doing renovation work and then the story evolved that since spring break was in effect that no students would be there. The fact is, due to a poor season, attendance has been down the past two months and Indiana is embarrassed about their NIT status.
And why Bob Knight still does not get it is beyond me. He was a great coach who did great things for the school. But he was also extremely flawed and instead of blaming everybody else, he should just admit his wrong doings and move on. Yet in Knight's world wishing everybody dead, when that admin is already long gone, and refusing to even make admends with the University is the best route to take.

The AD actually said "Assembly Hall is iconic. You've got to be careful not to devalue it."

After 9 years, Indiana gives Tom Crean the chop as he was fired. Too bad that the AD, Fred Glass, cannot fire himself along the way. Also, after being ranked as high as 3rd in the polls, Indiana became the 4th team ever, in the NCAA, to ever get that high and not make the eventual tournament.

    West Region

#5 Notre Dame survived a scare against #12 Princeton 60-58.

Bonzie Colson led the Fighting Irish with 18 points and seven rebounds. ND shot 14 out of 21 from the free throw line.

Spencer Weisz led the Tigers with 15 points as Devin Cannady was just long on a late go-ahead trey attempt.

Mike Brey's Irish will take on the winner between the #4 seed West Virginia Mountaineers and the #13 seed Bucknell Bison in the Second Round.

    East Region

Make it two ACC teams to the Second Round.

#5 seed Virginia Cavaliers pulled away from the pesky #12 seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks 76-71.

Virginia awaits the winner of the #4 seed Florida Gators and #13 seed East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the second round thanks to London Perrantes scoring 24 points. Marial Shayok added 23 from the bench.

Devontae Cacok had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort.

Re: 2016-17 MCollege Basketball Season Thread

The other teams joining the winners' list to the Second Round include Butler, Gonzaga, West Virginia pulling away from Bucknell late, Florida, Villanova, Purdue and three teams that earn my story of the day so far in Northwestern, Xavier and Middle Tennessee.

In their first NCAA Tournament after 78 years of waiting, the Northwestern Wildcats edged the Vanderbilt Commodores 68-66 for their first NCAA Tournament win.

Vandy had a one point lead late after coming back from 15 down until Matthew Fisher-Davis had an intentional foul on Bryant McIntosh. McIntosh sank both free throws and the Commodores failed to nail a late-winning trey.

The Wildcats will take on the top seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Second Round from the West Region in Salt Lake City.

Meanwhile, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders were one of the 12 seeds upending a #5 seed as they grabbed a 81-72 scalp over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Four Blue Raiders were in double figures including Reggie Upshaw leading the way with 19 points. Upshaw also had nine rebounds as Middle Tennessee outrebounded Minnesota, 37-24.

Middle Tennessee will take on Butler in the Second Round from the South Region.

Finally, the #11 seed Xavier Musketeers was the other double-digit team with a win as they defeated the #6 seed Maryland Terrapins 76-65.

Xavier had four players in double figures led by Trevon Bluiett who had 21.

Xavier will take on the winner of #3 seed Florida State Seminoles and #14 seed Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in the Second Round.

Re: 2016-17 MCollege Basketball Season Thread

#7 seed St. Mary's Gaels punched their ticket to the Second Round after beating the #10 seed Virginia Commonwealth Rams 85-77.

The Gaels had five players with 10+ points as Jock Landale had a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Jequan Lewis had 30 points in a losing effort, but VCU went 2 for 13 from downtown.

St. Mary's next assignment will be the winner of #2 seed Arizona Wildcats and #15 seed North Dakota Fighting Hawks in the Second Round in the West Regional.
