    Re: 2017 International Free Agency

    We signed RHP Renso Mejia the other day. He's almost 18. I like international signings like this. The players weren't signed at 16, so something must have developed as they aged. Less risk than 16-year olds who often regress or plateau.

    @BenBadler

    The Yankees have signed one of the prospects MLB removed from the Braves. Speedy, athletic shortstop.

    Re: 2017 International Free Agency

    Interestingly enough, Rojas was actually one of the three prospects the Braves signed THIS signing period that was remade a free agent (all the others were from two years ago).

    He was also one of the only three who participated in the showcase for the released prospects last month.

    I really don't think that the signing of Otani would hinder the Stanton trade. It would just mean that Cashman would be more active exploring trades for Gardner or Ellsbury.

    Maybe, but last week Cashman himself said that the Ohtani turning them down was what spurred him on to do a deal for Stanton, because they had been holding the DH spot specifically for Shohei.

    Considered the cost of trading Stanton, he's not a good GM if he passed up this opportunity. Ohtani or not.

    Yes but the reason he looked deeper into it was missing out on Ohtani. If you land Ohtani you probably don't take the Marlins seriously about dealing for Stanton, it's not being a bad GM, it's attempting to field your best team and leave some flexibility open.

    The point is that he should take the Marlins seriously no matter they signed Ohtani or not. It's an attempt to field the best team and I could argue that it would create even more flexibility. If they get both, they don't need to think how to get a starter now and could use those cap space and prospects to address other needs.

    In theory yes but not in reality.
    If you land Ohtani you are focused only on Ohtani and making some adjustments to the team from there.
