His bat may turn out to be too valuable to give up. All NL team GMs shall love it. Imagine you get a replacement level or slightly above average bat at pitcher position in a non-DH league, that's a huge advantage.

Is the NPB pitching that bad or is he really this good? His offensive #'s are silly. And that monster shot he hit the other day was ridiculous - pitcher or not.

    Re: 2017 International Free Agency

NPB pitching isn't very good at all... there are some standouts, but for the most part, the pitchers are AAAA caliber

it's why so many washed up major leaguers end up going overseas and carving out a good career for themselves, playing japanese ball

I know it's not great but my point was that sometimes you wonder if it's more like a lot of AA guys.

Im not weary of going all in for Otani in the slightest, but people need to realize that he will get ridiculous contract stipulations, regardless where he signs, that we might not be willing to deal with.

We dealt with circus driven performers before. Otani is a once in a generation level talent in terms of potential. Talent makes you live with certain issues.

see, if you built up some clubhouse cuban connections from a strong foundation, you too might have had the inside track on luis roberts.

but let's ask the gardner to manage that market. he knows spanish

I wrote him off after he didn't defect back in 2006 when he was 22. Then would've been the time. He had a lot of helium back then and we could've really used him. LMAO @ Houston signing him as a 32-year-old. No thanks.

In Otani, however, MLB may have more leverage than usual. Reports in Japan indicate that Otani already has an agreement with the Fighters to post him after this season, a pact that was struck when he first was drafted. At the time, Otaniís team must have assumed the posting fee would be at least $20 million, as the others were

Otani is going to be the most mentioned non Yankee ever if we don't sign him.

There have been two players I was almost too excited to sign in the last 15 years. Teixeira and Tanaka. Otani would be my third.

WOW,WOW,WOW...Yankees now tied to Anthony Garcia. The 6-5 205 OF has plus power from both sides of the plate and has been clocked running a 6.6 60 yard dash...A fast riser on INT lists. Sounds good..AS per BA.
