    Lets go Rangers! 2017-2018

Hate to be a wet noodle but I have very low hopes for this season.

Let's see, they didn't buy out Girardi, didn't trade Glass, Staal, Nash, or anyone at the draft, didn't sign any free agents, didn't have a 1st or 2nd round pick in the draft, and everyone is a year older.

    So, lets go Rangers?

Rangers avoid arbitration and sign JT Miller for 2 years, $5,25 million.

    I like it. Kreider-Stepan-Miiler is a great 2nd line.

Rangers trade Brassard and a 7th round pick for 23 year old Senators center Mika Zibanejad and a 2nd round pick. I don't really know anything about him, but he put up pretty decent numbers as a young player on a bad team, which seems promising. Also frees up some cap space, though he'll be a RFA next summer. I like Brassard, but short of the moving the big salaries weighing down our blue line, this seems like the kind of move we should be making.

Tough move to make as Brass was nothing short of great during his stay with the Rangers but if they're really going to move in another direction and start tearing things down, its the right move.

Nash is probably next and I hope they can find a taker for Staal.

If this Brassard move stands by itself, then it's not a good move.
But if it's part of more moves to come, then it's a step in the right direction.
Hey, me and CFP finally agree for once. Someone take my temperature.

I know next to nothing about Zibanejad other than his age and numbers from last year, but it saves them $3m in cap space and 2 years of Brassard's prime but if they're not gonna be great anyway no use in wasting his prime for us. Best of luck in Ottawa and thanks for the memories Derek.

College free agent Jimmy Vesey has signed with the Rangers, after meeting with what seemed like half the league, including all 3 NYC area teams.

Another guy AV can scratch in favor of Glass.

I'm not a huge fan but hes a free asset.

Hey, we didn't have a 1st round pick, but they signed a 1st round player. I'll take it. TBH I'm surprised he signed here. Guess he really likes Hayes.

I'm being optimistic but between Vesey, Zibanejad and Buchnevich on the team this year there's finally, really, actually no room for Glass and Gorton, now a year into the job, will tell AV as much.

This offseason has been, eh? The offense and forwards weren't the problem last year and they've done nothing to help rebuild the defense other than letting Boyle retire.

Is there any chance we can trade Nash for either defensive prospects or Shattenkirk??

  16. #16

    Re: Lets go Rangers! 2016-2017

    Doubt it.

I wouldn't be interested in trading for Shattenkirk at this point either. No need to spend assets on a player who they can sign for money in a few months if they really want him (Staal and Girardi will both need to be gone in order for this to even be possible.)

Yeah but why waste another Hank year with this "defense"?

You can't really worry about that though, you need to maximize the return for your assets (control years+cost control.) This team isn't in the position they were two seasons ago.

Rangers inked Brandon Pirri to a one year deal. Nice low risk, low salary option for a guy who throws a ton of pucks on net. Something has to be up though, they have like 17 forwards.

    They better not trade Zucc.

    Re: Lets go Rangers! 2016-2017

Hes easily their most moveable/valuable asset aside from McDonagh.

I wouldn't be pushing him out the door but I wouldn't hesitate to trade him if the right deal came along. I also don't think the FO will consider trading Zucc unless this team shows that they have no shot at the playoffs this year.

Rangers are in the running for Trouba?

If that happens, Gorton will have done a lot to restore my faith in this franchise. The coach is still a moron but he won't be here forever.

As long as they don't include Skjei in a deal I'm all for it. If Gorton can somehow send them Staal he would be my hero.

    Re: Lets go Rangers! 2016-2017

I don't see how they could get it done with out Skjei. I wouldn't let him stand in the way of getting this deal done either and I like the player a ton, but first pairing RHD are rare in this league and you almost never have an opportunity to get one at just 22 years of age.
