What's everyones take on the whole resting players thing going on now?

It seems like the league and players are tone deaf on this. It's pretty clear that there's too many regular season games and sitting the stars is the only way to circumvent that, but doing so comes at the expense of fans. This may take a work stoppage to fix but there should only be like 70 games max. Same for hockey.

I think this is 100% the fault of owners, pushing too many games. Instead of 82 games, it should be 72. But they won't let go of the extra revenue so you have players & coaches taking the mater into their own hands. You could say the same about hockey, except that the talent isn't as concentrated and players are easily much tougher & resilient than any other sport except maybe Football. In general NHL players will just grind it out, so instead of a player being a healthy scratch instead he'll just play lethargically and get yelled at by the coach to save himself for the rest of the season & playoffs

I think we may get to a point where it's feasible they shorten the seasons since most revenue is from TV now not from ticket sales.

For the coaches and players especially for quality championship caliber teams like the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers, they are resting players for a reason: fresh bodies for the players in their quest for NBA World Championships.

Sure, it's going to hurt the TV contracts and the fans, but those teams are thinking long term.

Yes, the coaches are doing what's best for their players and teams long term interests. However when you have fans paying $200+ per ticket to see the stars (and more than any other league, the NBA is a star based league) they can't be shocked that there's backlash.

    Alright.

Anyways, I think the NBA should take a page of the NHL: give teams one week off besides the All-Star break.

The Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers grabbed the last two spots in the East.

The Pacers will be the #7 seed and will take on the #2 seed Cleveland Cavaliers in their first head-to-head meeting since 1998 when the Pacers beat the Cavs 3-1.

The Bulls will be the #8 seed and will take on the #1 seed Boston Celtics as those two will meet each other for the fifth time with the Celtics winning the previous four.

The #3 seed Toronto Raptors will start off against the #6 seed Milwaukee Bucks.

The #4 seed Washington Wizards will meet the #5 seed Atlanta Hawks in a rematch of their 2015 second round encounter and their sixth playoff series meeting overall as the Wizards (then known as the Baltimore/Washington Bullets) have a 3-2 edge.

LeBron James and the defending NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers survived a scare as they edged out the Indiana Pacers 109-108 in Game 1 of their Round 1 series.

LeBron had 32 points and 13 assists, but Paul George and the Pacers kept it close and even outscored the Cavs 24-17 in the fourth. CJ Miles missed a 14-foot jumper with one second left that would've gave the Pacers the win inside the Q.

George had 29 points in a losing effort for the Pacers.

Speaking of buzzer beaters, the Utah Jazz grabbed Game 1 of their Round 1 series against the Los Angeles Clippers after a 97-95 victory inside Staples Center.

Joe Johnson came off the bench and scored 21 points including his game-winning floater with one second left with the game tied at 95 that stunned the Clippers' crowd.

Blake Griffin had 26 points with Chris Paul adding 25 and DeAndre Jordan adding a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds with three blocks, but the Clippers went ice-cold from downtown going 8/24.

The Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo was a monster in the Milwaukee Bucks 97-83 victory over the Toronto Raptors inside the Air Canada Centre. Antetokounmpo had 28 points as the Bucks had six players in double-figures.

The Raptors only shot 36% from the field as Kyle Lowry went 2/11 from the field with four points.

Finally, the San Antonio Spurs thrashed the Memphis Grizzlies 111-82 thanks to Kawhi Leonard's 32 points on 11/14 shooting.
