Today's proof that billionaires are the cheapest, greediest people in America.

    http://deadspin.com/wizards-and-caps...-my-1788549217

Hereís Ted Leonsis, majority owner of the Washington Capitals, the Washington Wizards, and the arena in which both those teams play their home games, D.C.ís Verizon Center, mewling to the Washington Post because he has to pay his own mortgage and building costs instead of passing them on to the taxpayers of the city:

The teams I own suck every year because the city wonít pay my bills for me. That is the substance of the argument being put forth here. Coming from the mouth of the owner of the Wizards and Capitals, in the context of hinting around about moving those teams, it amounts to a ransom demand: Buy me a new arena, or I will continue throttling the local NBA and NHL teamsí prospects in perpetuity.

Most billionaires & millionaires got that way by being cheap and miser-ly. People who are quick to concede don't tend accumulate wealth.

It's on the politicians and voters to reject this kind of greed and fleecing of taxpayers

Very true. It's easy to get angry at the owner, but the real anger should be given to the politicians who give away these funds in return for nothing.

And yet Ted Leonsis, you pay Washington Capitals livewire captain goalscorer Alex Ovechkin with a 13-year contract extension worth $124 million.

As for your new arena garbage, Verizon Center is still in good shape and it's in Downtown D.C. What gives?

The roof leaks, but that's nothing that can't be (or hasn't been) fixed. Ovechkin is a superstar, but irrespective of that the NHL is a hard capped league, so total player salaries on the payroll are reasonable relative to revenues.

The bottom line remains that he is most likely very profitable in terms of cash flow, if not in terms of equity appreciation of the franchise values (avg. NBA team value alone is now over 1 billion)

I read this earlier and have to ask.... settle what?

Sterling lost his franchise, period. The Sterling family trust was going to be responsible for damages and gave the NBA immunity towards the lawsuits from Donald.

    What was there to settle?

Looks like Donald Sterling wants something in return since he filed antitrust lawsuit with the NBA over his forceout.

But come on Sterling. You got caught in a taped message of flapping your gums in a racial matter and you were slapped with a lifetime ban.

Since he had nothing, Sterling had to drop the lawsuit.

It's pretty much the Golden State Warriors vs. the San Antonio Spurs vs. the Houston Rockets vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. the field.

The Dubs, Spurs and Rockets will beat the crap out of each other for the #1 seed in the West while the Cavs are pulling away from the East and gunning for the NBA's #1 overall seed even though the Toronto Raptors are trying their best to catch them.
