Understood. It just seems odd that a leagues best player can be so universally hated outside of his city. He's basically Barry Bonds. But it should not seem so odd that the NHL will market and promote their best player, something they have lacked at doing compared to other sports due to the team first mentality of hockey.

I don't think Crosby is an asshole like Bonds was. Crosby is liked by most other players and the media, but he hasn't broken through with fans. He is a generational talent, but comes off as a crybaby. This may be my favorite clip of former Rangers coach John Tortorella.

May Bonds wasn't a fair comparison. He's the pre-steroid bombshells ARod of hockey . Just an awesome player that fans love to hate.

It wouldn't kill him if he had/showed more personality the way Subban/Ovechkin/Burns do.

He's as interesting off-ice as a jar of mayo.

I don't think his off-ice personality matters much, but I also don't see the A-Rod comparison. People dislike Crosby because he flops and whines, all the while dishing out his fair share of dirty shots. And the league enables it. Seems like a pretty natural thing for fans to get really annoyed about.

The American Hockey League has a new Calder Cup champion and it's the Detroit Red Wings' AHL farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins winning Game 6 in front of their home fans inside Van Andel Arena over the Tampa Bay Lightning AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch 4-3.

Tyler Bertuzzi, the nephew of former NHL power forward Todd Bertuzzi, was named the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy winner as the Calder Cup playoffs MVP.

It is the second Calder Cup title for the Griffins who took the series 4-2 over the Crunch.

BB55's Three Studs and Three Duds - 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a whole

With the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs in the books, here are my final three studs and duds for the season.

    Three Studs
    1. Pittsburgh Penguins
Why? Another Stanley Cup title for the Steel City and Sidney Crosby has fully cemented his legacy in the NHL.

Their resiliency and ability to win despite losing their best defenseman Kris Letang is very impressive.

How many Stanley Cups does Crosby have left in him?

I feel bad for Marc-Andre Fleury though when he was a Conn Smythe trophy candidate in the first two rounds and then lost his job in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals after conceding four goals on nine shots. With Matt Murray being the main goalie in the Steel City, where does Fleury, who won all three of his Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh, go from here?

    2. Nashville
Why? Okay, so the Nashville Predators were two wins shy of giving the Music City their first Big Four Pro Sports League title, but they'll be back.

Their future is bright with PK Subban leading the way.

Bridgestone Arena had an electric atmosphere every night and the community has embraced the Preds.

    3. The NHL
Why? Since the NBA playoffs was all about the dominance of the Golden State Warriors, the Stanley Cup playoffs is quite the opposite where the future stars like Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews will carry the torch alongside Crosby.

Add the usually high drama, high octane action, the NHL has a chance to build more success in the future.

    Three Duds
    1. Washington Capitals
Why? It was supposed to be the year that Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals take their game to the next level.

They went all in to get Kevin Shattenkirk from the St. Louis Blues.

Instead, another exit in the second round that prevented the Caps from making their first Conference Final since their dream Stanley Cup Finals run in 1998.

Is the window completely shut on them? Stay tuned.

    2. Bruce Boudreau
Why? Boudreau is the NHL's equivalent of Marty Schottenheimer: great regular seasons, but has yet to make a Stanley Cup Final.

Washington, Anaheim and now, the underachieving trend continues in Minnesota with the Wild.

Unless Boudreau has a much successful playoff run that nets a Stanley Cup Finals appearance, he might bounce around another job in the NHL.

    3. The expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights
Why? Good luck to the 30 NHL teams overcoming the loss of potential key players to Sin City.

Well, it was another enjoyable time talking hockey with all of you. See you again soon.
