Re: 2016 NCAA Football Season Thread (FBS and FCS)

BB55's Three Up, Three Down: The 2016-17 NCAA Division I FBS Bowl Season

Here's my final installment of Three Up, Three Down in the 2016-17 NCAA Division I FBS Football season

    3 Up
    1. Atlantic Coast Conference
Why? Not only the Clemson Tigers won their first national title since 1981, the entire Atlantic Coast Conference had a very good bowl season.

The ACC became the third conference to win the national title and the Bowl Challenge Cup title outright since the Bowl Challenge Cup was established in the 2002-03 Bowl Season (2002-03 Big Ten, 2015-16 SEC and 2016-17 ACC) after finishing their bowl season at 9-3.

    2. Baylor Bears, Minnesota Golden Gophers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Why? Those three teams, Baylor, Minnesota and Wake Forest faced some adversity this season and leading up to their bowl games, but came together in their bowl campaigns and won their bowl games.

    3. Alabama-Clemson College Football Playoff National Championship Part Deux
Why? Both the Crimson Tide and the Tigers picked up where they left off in their first national title encounter inside Glendale, Arizona's University of Phoenix Stadium.

The rematch lived up to the hype and more as the second clash inside Tampa's Raymond James Stadium became an instant classic.

    3 Down
    1. The Big Ten Conference
Why? The Big Ten was the biggest disappointment of all the Power Five Conferences despite a very good regular season.

The Big Ten had a 3-7 bowl record overall including a 1-3 bowl record in the New Year's Six Bowl Games.

The Ohio State Buckeyes laid a goose egg in their national semifinal clash in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines had another go at the referees in their heartbreaker against the Florida State Seminoles in the Capital One Orange Bowl. Sam Darnold and the USC Trojans broke James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions hearts in the Rose Bowl. And the Wisconsin Badgers only beat the Western Michigan Broncos by eight points.

    2. The Mid-American Conference
Why? The MAC went 0-6 in their bowl season. The MAC went winless with five or more bowl games for the third time in their last eight bowl seasons after going 0-5 twice in 2008-09 and 2013-14.

    3. New Year's Eve was a yawner
Why? All the New Year's Eve games were blowouts including the two National Championship semifinal games. The supplement bowl games were disappointing as well as the LSU Tigers stymied Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets trampled the Kentucky Wildcats in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Well, it was another good college football season.

Can't wait to get it on again.
