Clemson in front again with one second left!

    Deshaun Watson to Hunter Renfrow!

Clemson up by four points 35-31 with one second left with the basketball pick play.

Does Alabama have the Stanford play in them?

Clemson special teams comes through! An onside kick recovery!

A 21-point fourth quarter from Clemson wins them their first national title since 1981!

What a way for Deshaun Watson to end his college career.

The best college football game I have ever seen was the 1984 orange bowl between Miami and Nebraska for the national championship.

This game between clemson and Alabama might be better. What a game!
    Congrats to Clemson

    Congrats to Clemson
Both Alabama and Clemson picked up where they left off in Glendale last year.

What an incredible game in Tampa.

Alabama-Clemson II is right up there with USC-Texas Rose Bowl 2016, Miami-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl 2003, Alabama-Clemson I and the Miami-Nebraska clash in 1984 as the best national championship games ever.

Deshaun Watson completed 36 of 56 passes for 420 yards and had four total touchdowns including three passing.

Hunter Renfrow caught 10 balls for 92 yards and two scores. Mike Williams had some acrobatic grabs.

I thought the Clemson special teams were better and had a better return game than Alabama.

Alabama's defense had two takeaways, but had only three points off them.

Bo Scarbrough set the tone with two touchdown runs for Nick Saban's crew, but he was banged up later in the game.

Watson is my offensive MVP tonight. My defensive MVP goes to Clemson linebacker Ben Boulware.

This Clemson team has so much heart. Alabama hit them hard and with everything they had all game Long. Some of the shots Watson and some others took were brutal. But the kept getting up and fighting.

It was alabamas defense that kept them in this game. Their QB was basically a game manager.

What a bowl season for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Clemson Tigers brought the ACC a national title and the ACC won the Bowl Challenge Cup.

Only the third time a conference won both the National Championship and the Bowl Challenge Cup outright and fourth with a share overall (Big Ten in 2002-03, Big 12 shared with the ACC in 2005-06, SEC 2015-16 and ACC 2016-17).

You also have to give Brent Venables and his Clemson defense credit for forcing Jalen Hurts go out of his game-managing mode.

Outside of the defensive breakdown on Hurts' long ball to O.J. Howard and Steve Sarkisian using a trick play involving ArDarius Stewart to Howard, there were not many big plays from Hurts' arm.

And now the questions will begin. How much did firing the OC a week before the big game affect the freshman QB?
And I can hear Paul Finebaum and all his annoying callers on his show make excuse after excuse for why Bama lost. Clemson's offense made plays when they had to and wore down the bama defense.

Great game! The 4th quarter was unreal with great individual plays from Hurts, Watson, Williams, and Leggitt. I don't recall seeing a better WR than Mike Williams in the college game this season.

I think what hurt Alabama the most was losing Scarborough.

I would rank this as the 2nd best national title game that I've seen, behind Ohio State vs Miami.

Definitely, especially given how weak they are on offense otherwise. It's kind of crazy that Saban hasn't been able to get an elite QB to that program given how easily he recruits everybody else. Kind of scary to think of what he could do with a QB. I still think Alabama was probably the better team overall and probably wins that game more often than they don't, but great job by Clemson.

I'd put it after USC/Texas, too, but it was a fun game with a great ending. The first half or so of this game was a bit dull, with a lot of 3 and outs and punting. It was also just so damn long. The game took like 5 hours.

Oh, right....USC Texas was higher on the list.

Hurts is a freshman. I think he's going to be under center for 3 more seasons and it's a position that Saban won't have to worry about. I think the system discourages prolific passers from coming.

I saw 4 hours and 28 minutes which is still ridiculous for a college football game. So no wonder why the ratings were down.

I have a hard time watching football anymore. The commercial breaks are long and often.

I can't imagine what it must be like sitting in the stands (or playing in the game, for that matter).

I don't think Hurt had a good game at all. IMO he was exposed as a game manager. All year Obama got by with there defense. They just needed to make sure Hurt doesn't, well,Hurt them (no pun intended). All night he had receivers wide open but over threw them.

Best college national championship games IMO are:

    1. Nebraska vs. Miami. 1984 Orange Bowl
    2. Clemson vs. Alabama. 2017
    3. Texas vs. USC 2006 Rose Bowl
    4. Miami vs. Ohio State 2002 Fiesta Bowl
    5. Clemson vs. Alabama 2016
    6. Miami vs.Penn State 1987 (PSU had the best defensive strategy against Miami's high power offense)
    7. Penn State vs. Alabama. 1979 Sugar Bowl (Great defensive battle)

I remember that game. Cam Newton killed it. Not as good as those 6 I listed IMO. But still good.

Oh I forgot the 1979 Sugar Bowl Penn State vs. Alabama. Great defensive battle.

Auburn vs. Oregon 2010 would be #8 for me. I'm surprised more people don't talk about Miami vs. Penn State 1987. PSU had the perfect strategy against that high power U passing attack. So called experts say Miami lost because of their self inflicted mistakes, but it was really because of PSU's defense. They played with 1-2 linebackers denying miami the big plays down the field baiting Testaverde to throw short yardage passes. The extra linebackers would drop back on the passing plays and act as safeties or Dback and that caused a lot of INTs and broken pass plays. And on run plays the LBs helped in stuffing the line. It really was a brilliant strategy by Sandusky (can't believe I'm praising him,but despite the terrible things he did he was an excellent D coordinator) and Paterno.

Good point about Penn St vs Miami- especially at a time when the top teams wouldn't play each other in bowl games- and yes, my beloved Rose Bowl caused the most problems here.

I'd put Penn St vs Miami above Penn St vs Alabama. I thought the latter one was boring and too much of a defensive struggle. Again, it was exciting because of the #1 vs #2. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been memorable at all.

Re: 2016 NCAA Football Season Thread (FBS and FCS)

#1 Notre Dame at #2 Michigan State in late 1966 had the biggest build up that I can remember as a kid. I watched with a bunch of friends as a neutral but the tension was incredible. It wound up 10-10 when Parseghian decided to run out the clock rather than go for the win at the end of the game. That left a sour taste with a lot of fans and led to arguments for many years.
