We Cast The Dark Tower (Pt 3)

Next up - Roland's original Ka-tet (with a short description for each):

    Cuthbert Allgood
Cuthbert is Roland Deschain's childhood best friend.
Cuthbert is characterized by his outwardly flippant, care-free view of the world. He constantly makes jokes, often testing the nerves of his companions. He is notably skilled with a sling-shot.

    Alain Johns
Alain is described as being stout with blond hair. He is calm, reserved and often plays the role of level-headed mediator between ever pragmatic Roland and ostensibly care-free Cuthbert

    Jamie De Curry
He is characterized by a birthmark on his face, leading some in Gilead to refer to him as "Jamie of the marked face." It's stated by Roland that as a child he excelled in archery.

...and let's add one more to this thread:

    Cort
A teacher and gunslinger from Gilead who oversees the training of all apprentice gunslingers.
That's our second Arby's in town. Some say it's better, the fries are curlier, though I wouldn't know. I'm loyal to the original.

Re: We Cast The Dark Tower (Pt 3)

I like Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, or Ron Perlman for Cort. An alternative, though unlikely, idea if you're willing to drastically change his described physical appearance might be Clint Eastwood, as a nod to the intended Roland and a guy who would probably fit the mood of the role perfectly.

How old are the other supposed to be at that point again?

Actually, Ed Harris wouldn't be a bad choice at all for Cort. I'll throw his name in there, too.

From what I've read so far about this movie, it's confusing. I was excited at first but as time goes on I don't see a dark tower movie. I see the name of a franchise with a couple of character names and nothing else resembling the story.

They are gonna eff this up. I'm very disappointed and it's not even close yet.

Ed Harris could have a role, like Father Callahan perhaps. But not Cort. Cort needs to be a beefy dolt like Micky Rourke (edited) or something. He needs to be someone battle scarred and big.

I assumed that's what you meant, but thought the mistake was especially amusing.

That would be a guarantee against the movie being a total waste.

For Steve's sake, Gary Oldman should be in there somewhere as well. But not as a character actor.

Except for the five or ten minutes when Ed Harris would completely steal it from him.

Re: We Cast The Dark Tower (Pt 3)

Here are some interesting suggestions I've seen:

    Iain Glen - Cort
    Mark Stong - Jack Andolini
    Frank Vincent - Enrico Balazar
    Stephen Dillane - Stephen Deschain
    Kit Harrington - Cuthbert
Saoirse Ronan (or Jennifer Lawrence)- Susan Delgado
    Stephen Root - Calvin Tower
    James Cromwell - Father Callahan
Al Pacino - Joe Collins (Dandelo)
    Anthony Hopkins - Ted Brautigan
That's our second Arby's in town. Some say it's better, the fries are curlier, though I wouldn't know. I'm loyal to the original.

Speaking of which we could probably cast most of GoT characters in TDT. Littlefinger, Stannis, Tywin, and Ramsey could all take a number of roles.

I was also thinking Mads Mikkelson as Stephen Deschain.

That is true. You could require a GoT credit to be cast in TDT and have plenty of choices and ot would work.

director Nikolaj Arcel‘s science fiction and horror-tinged fantasy epic has just recruited another new actor. The mostly unknown Tom Taylor will play Jake Chambers, the 12-year old boy who finds himself drawn into the world of Roland Deschain the Gunslinger and proceeds to develop a strong bond with Elba’s wandering warrior.
