Yogi Berra Has Passed Away at 90

News confirmed by verified accounts all over Twitter.

It felt like he would never actually die for some reason. He was just always there - and I wasn't even around to see him play or anything.

Sad day for Yankee fans. But no one lived a fuller life. You will never be forgotten Yogi.

Hell, this is YOGI we're talking about. They should have his monument ready when the team gets back to the Stadium! Years back, I remember reading that GMSIII offered it to Yogi while he was still alive but Yogi said no. I'm so sad this morning to think that the day has come.

RIP Yogi. I have always regretted not taking the opportunity to meet him whenever I had the chance when I was living in Montclair. Stupid me. A true Yankees legend.

IIRC, it was also offered to Joe D when Mantle passed, and Joe D said no as well.

Yogi does deserve a Monument out there.

And ummm arm band? They've honored the passing of Retired Number Honorees with a simple number patch since Billy Martin. So I'm guessing just a #8 on the sleeve.

It should be worn until next September 22.
It happens to be the day he made his ML debut in 1946.

A great player (that goes without saying) a great hitter, great catcher, also played outfield from time to time (No DH in those days) an underrated manager (got the team to the WS his rookie year, then gets fired for losing, also got the Mets to the WS with a crap team) dedicated family man, war hero. Yogi, you will be greatly missed. And one of the owners of Yoo-Hoo, which was one of our favorite drinks as kids back in the early sixties, mainly because Yogi and another Yankee (Rizzuto, Ford?) owned the company.

I never met him or saw him play other than the old films and newsreels. I remember him as a manager and coach. Most will remember him as part of the greatest Yankee eras in baseball history. But his life also transcended baseball. One of our "Greatest Generation" as a World War II Veteran.

    Rest in Peace Yogi.
