I know very little about soccer but from what little I do know it looks like home town Russia got a very favorable group.

What is considered the "group" of death this year?

I say Groups B, D and F are the "Groups of Death" in the 2018 tournament.

I bet some USMNT fans are breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't qualify in this edition.

Brazil looks like an easy win. That does not always bode well, however.

The host is seeded automatically, and the opening game of Russia vs. Saudi Arabia will have the two worst ranked teams. Spain vs. Portugal will be on Day 2. If Russia, Spain, and Portugal advance, Russia will have to face Spain or Portugal in the Round of 16.
