Re: 2018 FIFA World Cup Football/Soccer Thread

Going back to World Cup Qualifying, CONCACAF (North and Central America and the Caribbean) has Round 2 from June 7 to 16. Round 2 has 10 two leg series with the country with the most aggregate goals advancing to Round 3. The draw for Round 3 will be in July and Round 3 will be played in September. Here are the Round 2 pairings (13 of these countries start in Round 2 and a * means the country advanced from Round 1):

St. Vincent and the Grenadines vs. Guyana
Antigua and Barbuda vs. St. Lucia
    Puerto Rico vs. Grenada
    Dominica* vs. Canada
    Dominican Republic vs. Belize*
    Guatemala vs. Bermuda*
    Aruba vs. Barbados*
St. Kitts and Nevis* vs. El Salvador
    Curacao* vs. Cuba
    Nicaragua* vs. Suriname

The United States starts in Round 4 which will have 12 countries in 3 groups of 4.

AFC (Asia) also plays World Cup Qualifiers in June. AFC starts a group stage, and nobody will clinch advancing or being eliminated yet.

Don't forget it's very possible - and many believe likely - that Blatter will be instrumental in choosing his successor. As a result, the name may change but the same corrupt practices remain. Hopefully Platini is in the running and selected.

A top FIFA official said Russia and Qatar’s hosting of the next two World Cups could be peril if it’s shown bribes played helped those countries’ winning bids.

Domenico Scala, chairman of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee, is the first high-ranking association official to suggest venues could still be moved, in the wake of recent arrests.

“If evidence should emerge that the awards to Qatar and Russia only came about thanks to bought votes, then the awards could be invalidated,” Scala said in an interview published Sunday in SonntagsZeitung.

Yes, nobody is going to be mess with Putin's billions. But choosing Qatar was a joke and nobody wants it there.....especially the Euro leagues. It was a bait and switch by changing the dates.

I'm one of the few sports fans that will give Qatar a chance to prove me wrong about hosting a FIFA World Cup.

However, I have a lot of concerns about 2022 especially after the FIFA World Cup. Will some of their stadiums built for the 2022 tournament still be in use and will Qatar, as a country, be financially stable after their 2022 FIFA World Cup?

The United States should get the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

I'm far from an expert, but here's part of the problem with giving them a chance...

    1. An estimated 5,000 laborers are expected to die, while building the stadiums. Most of these laborers are imported from poor countries, like Bangladesh. When there were natural disasters in the home country recently, the laborers weren't even allowed to go home and bury their loved ones.

    2. Qatar won the rigged bid without the idea of moving the dates to another season to accommodate for the intense heat. After they won the bid, a decision was corruptly made to move the dates.

I'm far more concerned with 1 than 2. Okay, fine, there was corruption, whatever. There was probably some corruption involved in the awarding of every World Cup and other major tournament in recent and not so recent memory. I'm a lot more concerned about the fact that slave labor is being used to build stuff, and with the death toll as compared to the death toll for other similar projects. Number 2 is a sporting/run of the mill corruption issue issue. Number 1 goes way, way beyond that.
