Yeah, there really seems to be no significant downside to this, since he's not even guaranteed money after this year. If they can't restructure/he proves to be the locker room issue he's being portrayed as, they can always just let him go and only be out the mid rounder. If it pays off, obviously the upside is high. I'm always surprised by the overwhelming value of picks in the NFL (a 5th rounder being able to land Randy Moss for the Patriots, a 4-6 being able to land Harvin, etc.) I mean it's a bit more understandable since those guys had/have attitude issues apparently, but still, giving up that kind of potential player value for what might be a 5th or 6th round pick seems bad.

A lot of it has to do with data emerging that football players' useful life is very short. They peak by 25 or 26 and decline precipitously after that.

QBs and kickers are exceptions for obvious reasons.

    Your ball is hazy........Mariotta.

Personally, I'm hoping we can turn the 3rd pick into at least one early round pick.

So are Jet fans happy with win or sad that draft pick just went down?

Re: 2014 New York Jets Thread

Why On earth wouldn't you want to win the games? The Jets and Giants both aren't competing for best draft picks. 2 and 3 wins between them but they're still trying to win.

Besides, the Jets are just going to screw up their draft pick anyway.

because if you tank games on purpose you should be banned from sports?

besides, this is the NFL not the NBA. You don't need the first pick to have any chance at climbing back up. By and large the people making the selections are more important than the order they are given. The exception is when an Andrew Luck shows up and you need that #1, but do you think we should be racing to the bottom to out-stink Tampa & Oakland?

I think you might have misread his post. I don't think he was suggesting losing on purpose; it seemed like he was suggesting the opposite to me. (Why on earth wouldn't you want to win the games?)

Right, which is why this win was bad. A few more of these, a 5-11 finish, say, and watch Idziot and Ryan get long-term extensions because a 4-3 stretch run will "prove" the program is "coming together." At 1-15, even Woody Johnson might realize new leadership is needed.

Actually, I want the Jets to sell the farm to get my Raiders #1 overall so you can draft the kid from Oregon...

If they do trade up it won't be with the Raiders, they know the Raiders won't likely be drafting a QB this year. Or at least they should know.

I didn't know Schiano was coaching the Steeler's D. Good for Mangold.

I'm not sure how the Steelers more or less avoid the classless tag they so clearly deserve.
