    Official Vacuum Cleaner Thread

    Yeah, I know, but it's the off-season.

Which model do you have and love? I'm looking at Sharks. I'd like a Dyson, but they're out of my price range. I don't want to spend more than $200.

    Oreck

We got the top model because we have had up to 4 dogs roaming around the house.

I have a central vac system. I think the motor is a panasonic but I could be wrong about that.

(Waiting for the obligatory female joke post from mr. Coffee)

We have a Dyson. One of the big bulky yellow ones that's a pain to use on the stairs. At the time we bought it, we had 4000 sq. ft to vacuum and the cheap ones were not cutting it. It's also warrantied for I think 5 years.

Rainbow. Only vacuum that doesn't set off the wife's asthma when it runs.

We have multiple vacuums here. The heavy lifter is the Shark, the litter box/downstairs entryway gets the cheap but reliable Bissell, and the rest of the house gets the Oreck.

At the camp I have a 1965 Bradford. It just won't quit. Also have a Bradford metal window fan there from the same year and that still runs all summer.

I have a Bissell Cleanview II. Bought it about 4 years ago. It's OUTSTANDING. Upright, but also has a hose to act like a cannister. HEPA filters. Many attachments. Got it at Macy's with a coupon.

For carpets/rugs: Royal commercial model (same one used in most hotels).

    For everything else: 1963 Electrolux.

Both are superb at what they do and indestructible.

5hp Shop-Vac comes in handy, too.

I kno absolutely nothing about vacuum cleaners except that I get totally pissed when my wife brandishes the machine when I am resting watching a good TV show.

Didn't we have a thread like this once? I know I've solicited vacuum cleaner advice myself on here.

Currently I have the Hoover for pet hair that mimics the Dyson (we had the latter but I killed it). I'm happy with it but have been pondering buying another vac just for our carpeted stairs...

Johns deadlines and diversions with new questions also killed the discussion. Having this official thread will allow the vital vacuum discussion to finally flourish and reach its full potential.

Why? I still like my ex and think she's a terrific person. Life keeps going on. And thank goodness for that.

We have a Dyson and the only reason we do is because it was a shower gift. I can't believe it costs $500.

Yes, it was only a momentary cringe. I wouldn't have linked that thread if I thought it would be an issue.

Yeah, yeah... I was torn between the Dyson and the Oreck. My decision was made because I didn't like the idea of the bagless system of Dyson. Seeing the crap that got sucked up and having to pour it into a garbage bag was not appealing. I also figured that while pouring the contents of the container into the garbage bag, some of the dust and dirt and grime would surely end up outside of the garbage can.

So I went with the Oreck. The thing works great.

We have a Kirby. It's pretty amazing. If I have it running in the middle of the room and tip it back it will lift up the carpet.

We have a very exprensive Electrolux canister vacuum.
It's a great machine - but it was a big mistake.
When you dole out the responisiblity of vacuuming the house to the kids, they don't give a hoot how much the vacuum costs. They just kick it, toss it, abuse it - then throw it into the closet when they're done.
Needless to say, my $1,000 vacuum looks like it belongs in the Sanford & Son estate...
