    The Red Sox Thread

Now that the Community Standards are back online, we can re-start a discussion of the Red Sox. As per those Standards, any posting in this thread must be done in a civil manner. That means a genuine discussion without baiting, trolling, flaming or mocking using words or pictures etc. That doesn't mean you can't state your opinions of a player or the team, but do it in a respectful manner. Repeated warnings for those who don't comply will result in the loss of access to the Around the Majors Forum. This thread WILL be monitored more than other threads in Around the Majors for obvious reasons.
    Let the kids play.

    Alright, I will play.....

The Sox rotation is on quite the roll. Good for them, it aggravates me. However, I say this fondly.

Well Beckett and Lester would seem to be formidable, but Lackey is probably questionable and I don't have a clue about the other starters.

I think Matsuzaka has had a couple of strong games after that atrocity he threw earlier in the season but I haven't followed the Sox all that closely... and it would still drive me nuts if I had to watch him pitch every 5th day for the Yankees.

Somebody will come along. I really don't pay much attention to other teams, but the Sox have climbed right back like most thought they would. It should be a good race with the Yanks/Sox/Rays....the others appear to have drifted towards their final destination.

I completely understand the need to be civil, but we are going to have to find a balance between civility and a complete lack of humor and creativity.

Verlander vs Beckett should be an interesting matchup tonight...each gave up a run already

Re: The Red Sox Thread (New and Improved)

The Red Sox and Kevin Millwood have agreed to a minor league deal, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown.

Millwood, 36, signed a minor league deal with the Yankees earlier this year but opted out of his contract after posting a 4.50 ERA through three minor league starts. Millwood's numbers appeared to be good through his first two starts, but scouts said otherwise, citing that his fastball was sitting around just 85mph.

Over the past few days, we've heard that the Cubs, Red Sox, and possibly the Angels have all shown interest in Millwood. Boston's rotation depth has taken a hit with injuries to both John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka, so the Red Sox were a logical destination for the 14-year Major League veteran.

I'm wondering if Tito thought that pulling Beckett at 82 pitches was somehow karmic retribution for letting Clay throw over 125 last night. Stupid move. I thought it was a stupid move when he pulled him and it looks dumber now that the game is tied. I'm hoping Tito was, in fact, and idiot tonight and that there wasn't something wrong with the best part of our rotation right now. Guess we'll all find out later tonight or tomorrow.

I was just coming here to post and ask why he was lifted after 82 pitches? I thought for sure there had to be something wrong with him - some sort of tightness?

I've been checking in here and there so didn't see his last inning...maybe it was weather related and he slid on a landing and they didn't want to take any chances?

Turns out Beckett was feeling some stiffness in his neck. I guess he was the one that actually went to Tito and said he needed to come out, which is good, because 2-3 years ago, he would've tried to fight through it, and probably hurt himself even more. He's been tremendous this year, and we can't afford to have another pitcher on the DL.

Saltalamacchia is damn near league average. As Phil Dunphy would say, "why the face?".

Josh Reddick's been called up, Darnell McDonald to the DL even though it's Drew who strained something. And Nava cleared waivers and was outrighted.
