Is this the AL's best rotation? Until the Rays get four starters back from the disabled list, it might be. Other teams -- Seattle (Felix Hernandez), Detroit (David Price), Cleveland (Corey Kluber) -- may have true No. 1s, but they don't have Boston's depth.
He gets paid to do this. Funny, I thought they had one of the potential WORST rotations in baseball.

Then please state your opinion on who is the greatest pitcher of all time, and why that is your opinion.

Then I guess we can scratch both Ruth's & Gehrig's name from the Yankee top 4, and most of DiMaggio's career from 1936-46, since that was in the whites-only era? I don't think so, since these players aren't responsible for the era in which they played.

Between Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, Christy Mathewson, Walter Spahn, there are quite a few characters who have certainly been great, and for different reasons.

Pedro has also been hurt for parts of his career, when it seemed like his arm was about to fall off. He's a small-framed power pitcher, so there's a reason why the power guys are either very large-bodied (Clemens) or have frames that allow them to do this (Unit). 5'11", 170 or so lbs isn't the usual flame-thrower's body size.

Yeah, I think the comments may have been locked to protect the integrity of that site's posters.

You weren't alone. I think most people here were LOL'ing about that rotation, with the somewhat puzzling exception of a few that were stroking Cherington and lambasting Cashman re: the Sox signing Masterson.

I guess I could understand why, in a completely miraculous blue-sky scenario where these pitchers all pitched to their theoretical best and stayed healthy, this could have been perhaps an ok rotation... but "5 aces"??? That's a joke.

I have no earthly clue how this is a 2-1 game through five. Based on the stuff I'm seeing out of Verlander and Owens so far, this should be a 7-4 or 7-5 game by now.

Cherrington made plenty of bad moves during the offseason (Masterson, extending Porcello, etc.), but I feel like the Sandoval and Hanley moves came from upstairs. Nonsense like this is why all Sox fans should have felt some measure of relief when Lucchino retired.

I heard something touching on the radio broadcast today. The Indians are in Boston, and Francona is going to accompany his old friend to his first chemotherapy session.

Here's a link to the story on ESPN:
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/13...hemo-treatment

"I may not do anything other than get in the way, like normal, but being a friend, the only thing I know how to do is be a friend. Like the rest of us, we don't know exactly what to do, but I do know how to be a friend. I care about him a lot. That's what I'm trying to do."

Always liked Tito, class act all the way. The treatment he got from the Red Sox FO on his way out the door was absolutely putrid.

It was just a matter of time before they ran their "Golden Boy" out of town. I figured it would be the offseason, but this way they can trash him while the spotlight is still on baseball.

    Nicely done Sox.
