    A question about tattoos

    Why?

    In God's name, why?

Ok that's 2 questions, but I just don't get it. Never have.

Why do you have to "get it?"

    Just don't get one.

For different reasons I guess. It either looks cool is popular or it means something to the tattooee. (The person wearing the tattoo) Some people get Tat's for the sole purpose of respecting a dead person who mattered a lot in their lives. Frankly it's not my style but I'm so scared of needles there is no force on earth that could strap me down to a chair and get a tattoo.

It's been around for a long time. I'm surprised you've never seen it.

Not a fan. I've seen very few that I thought worthy of wearing forever.

I didn't learn until well into my adulthood that my Grandmother requested my Dad and Uncle not to get any tattoos when they left for WW II. I imagine there were also admonisions about things like keeping their heads down and such, but the one they most remembered was to come home with a clean canvas.

If it was good enough advice to send with my Dad as he went off to war, I guess it's good enough for me.

    To each his own.

I never saw the appeal of them but I don't have a problem with them.

But then I never saw the appeal that the aborigines of New Ginea have for sticking that "whateverthefluckitis" over their schlocks. Man that looks like its gotta hurt. Jesus don't roll over while you're sleepin fella!

Or pokin holes in your body to hang metal off of either.

Like someone once said, "I was in a music shop and the cashier had more metal on his face than the store had in CDs. When the cashier said to me 'what are you starin at?!!' I said, 'WTF do you think?'

So voluntarily getting a permanent ink mark embedded on your ass via a trench digging needle is considered knowledgeable and open minded these days?

No, the point was that people who have strong opinions against tatoos are ignorant and closed minded. people express themselves in many different way and no one else has a right to judge that.

No, completely rejecting an idea or practice that in no way harms your life and your happiness is closed minded.

What do you care if someone has a ton of tattoos?

I believe I have the right to express myself, too.

I seriously asked this question because I'm trying to understand why people make decisions to get tattoos. And in return some people just get defensive and choose to insult, which explains nothing. Thanks to those who actually answered the question.

I love women's legs uncovered thank you. In fact I've spent a large part of my life trying to accomplish it.

I don't care. I just asked "why"? Sorry if you can't handle that simple question without insulting or dismissing.

Yes, you do have that right. However, what do you care? How does someone like Jeff Monson (http://promma.info/wp-content/upload...ff-monson3.jpg) having a bunch of tattoos effect your life?

Maybe some people think it was insulting that you made a thread saying how getting tattoos is stupid.

I agree, you have a right to express yourself. Everyone does.

I didn't mean to insult you if I did. Just try and understand people who have tattoos become defensive because those who are against them make very harsh and strong opinions about them without even knowing who they are. After hearing it your entire life you either accept it and let it go, or you lose patience and defend yourself. I can see having a preliminary opinion about someone but judging them solely on appearance or body art is not really that fair.

    Re: A question about tattoos

I'm not saying this to be snotty but do you find women getting their ears pierced objectionable? They are basically putting a permanent hole in their body. Why? Because they like the way it looks. I suspect that is the reason that many people get tattoos.

I didn't mean to be insulting, if you took it that way. But I stand by my comment.

I doubt there's anything any one of us tattooed freaks can say that will make you change your mind

I love my tattoo because I think it's pretty. I'd like one more.

OK, do you want to prove where I stated getting a tattoo is "stupid"?

For the 3rd time, the question was an earnest "why"?

You obviously can only answer with insults or questions.
