    Sponge Mop or String Mop?

I know, another useless, lame thread. But I really wanna know.

Anyway, this is something I've been debating with a friend recently. She says sponge mops clean better and string mops just push all the dirt around the floor.
I feel the opposite. I think a string mop cleans better. Why else do they seem to be the choice of janitors everywhere?

    Thoughts?

The most important feature is the length of the mop . . . so she can clean a larger area while standing at the stove.

Because a janitor's job is to clean a very large area as quickly and easily as possible. You get more coverage with a big, sloppy, string mop. Janitors also aren't as concerned with leaving the floor of, say, a high school cafeteria as sanitary as you would like to leave your home kitchen.

    I vote sponge.

How about long freakin' legs, dammit?!!!

I say that a nice freakin' arse counts for something also. Long arms could mean she's a damned ape like Magilla Gorilla.

I associate string mops with every gross food service job I have had...the huge string mop and horrifying bucket/wringer combo.

So my answer is: sponge mop.

    EDIT - I use a sponge mop ;-)
EDIT #2 - Although I was considering buying one of those steam cleaners for the floors - I know a couple people that use it and they say it's awesome - works on tile, hardwood, etc.

You'll still need a bucket for the sponge mop, so what's the difference that a sponge mop has its own wringer?

Yeah, but I use a smaller, more manageable and cleaner bucket for the spongey. I just have this mental image of the industrial-sized string mops and buckets one uses in restaurants in my head. It is not a pretty sight...

I use the bathroom sink. Never use a bucket. And I wring the string mop out with my hands (with gloves on).

My friend wants to get one of those steam cleaner mops, but she said it's like $80. I guess if it works, it's not bad.
