Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Message Boards for Other Teams: A List

Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB. My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions! Edit: Updated on 8/3/11-- New input...

  4. Sticky Thread Sticky: ATTENTION EVERYONE New Community Standards

Big news - our revised Community Standards are finally online. Please access them on the footer of the page, towards the right-hand edge..... The main point of differentiation between NYYFans and most other sports forums is the sense of community that has been fostered here, since our site was founded many years ago. In order to maintain this atmosphere, we must hold posters to certain basic expectations when participating here..... To this end, we will be conducting a relaunch of our...

  1. The Red Sox Thread...

Obviously anyone can open as many threads as they like, but I thought it might be easier if there was one thread where anyone could go who wanted to discuss all things Red Sox (conversation/updates/injuries/other news, etc ) -- this way there wouldn't be so many cross-over Schilling and pitching conversations going on at once in separate threads..it would also keep ATM from having 6 different Sox discussions which can bury threads on other teams. Hope it helps. :) Okay, having said all that...

  2. The Official Watching The Scoreboard Thread 2.0

Last year's thread was quite a success, and although it was made much later in the year I thought it would be a good idea to start a new one. I am sure many of us will be paying attention the Mets this year, and they are playing Detroit today to open up their year (NYM is up 2-0).

Feel free to discuss the Sox here. Allow me to start: Pedroia takes the feed from Team USA teammate Jeter and throws to Youk to complete 6-4-3 DP....cool or sickening?!

  4. The Red Sox Thread

Now that the Community Standards are back online, we can re-start a discussion of the Red Sox. As per those Standards, any posting in this thread must be done in a civil manner. That means a genuine discussion without baiting, trolling, flaming or mocking using words or pictures etc. That doesn't mean you can't state your opinions of a player or the team, but do it in a respectful manner. Repeated warnings for those who don't comply will result in the loss of access to the Around the Majors...

  8. Red Sox thread (continued)

Update on the payroll, which is being tracked and updated here: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?t=100446 Yanks are at 176.11 and the Sox are at 155.06. Yanks have 22 players signed, the Sox are at 29. Obviously the Sox will have to trim the roster a bit to get set for opening day, and obviously the Yankees will add 3 more players between now and then, even if it's just promoting some minor leaguers. Either way, it's amazing how close these two teams have gotten payroll wise,...

  12. Re: Red Sox thread (continued)

Please put all Red Sox-related posts within this thread. Please note, there is to be ABSOLUTELY NO in-game commentary about Red Sox games in this thread, or anywhere on this site for that matter. There are plenty of Red Sox forums out there for that. People who are found to be discussing a live game or using this thread as a "Red Sox Gamethread" will be suspended for at least 5 days. Subsequent instances will result in the user being permanently banned. Users are urged to report this...

  13. The New York Mets Thread

I decided to start a Mets thread because there have been a collection of smaller Mets threads in ATM and I think it would be best if we just had a larger thread to cover all things Mets. Two things about them strike me today... 1. Pelfry looked pretty good last night. 2. I have a feeling the Mets fans across the nation are beginning to sweat a little bit because right now the Braves are mashing. Ok. Go ahead, start discussing.

  16. The Baltimore Orioles Thread (merged)

As an Oriole fan, this has been a tough year. But I am greatly encouraged by the statement that Peter Angelos put out yesterday. Here is the link and a couple of paragraphs, but it is worth reading the full article. I am glad Mr. Angelos has spoken out and promised a bright future, and this was definitely needed at this time in the history of the Baltimore Orioles. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050928&content_id=1228076&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb ...

  18. The Red Sox Thread...

According to hitting coach Ron Jackson, Mark Loretta (not Kevin Youkilis) may be the one getting first crack at hitting leadoff for the Red Sox. (Link. Scroll down near the bottom.) Really dumb idea, if you ask me. Not that Loretta is a horrible choice for leadoff (about the same OBP as Damon last year, IIRC), but Youkilis is such a better idea that it isn't funny.
