Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: ATTENTION EVERYONE New Community Standards

Big news - our revised Community Standards are finally online. Please access them on the footer of the page, towards the right-hand edge..... The main point of differentiation between NYYFans and most other sports forums is the sense of community that has been fostered here, since our site was founded many years ago. In order to maintain this atmosphere, we must hold posters to certain basic expectations when participating here..... To this end, we will be conducting a relaunch of our...

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Message Boards for Other Teams: A List

Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB. My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions! Edit: Updated on 8/3/11-- New input...

  2. Wildcard Teams, Length of Games, & Radical Change Suggestion

I don't think it's fair for a one-game playoff deciding which of the 2 wild card teams make it to the divisional best-of-five series. My suggestion is to have a best-of-three series. 3 days (Tues/Wed/Thurs) in a row at the #1 seed's home ballpark. This is to eliminate any extra travel issues. The revenues generated for all games are equally divided between the 3 organizations. The wildcard team with the better record is the "home team" for the 1st & 3rd games. Consequently, both divisional...

  3. My Punishment Proposal For Players Who Test Positive For PEDs

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23512723/robinson-cano-seattle-mariners-suspended-80-games-violating-joint-drug-agreement is titled "Mariners' Robinson Cano suspended 80 games by MLB." Michael Kay said that the only way to eliminate PEDs is to give a lifetime ban for a first positive test. I have a proposal that is not a lifetime ban, but is much bigger than the current 80 games. I propose that after a first positive test, players can never make more than the MLB minimum. Therefore...

  5. The Red Sox Thread

Now that the Community Standards are back online, we can re-start a discussion of the Red Sox. As per those Standards, any posting in this thread must be done in a civil manner. That means a genuine discussion without baiting, trolling, flaming or mocking using words or pictures etc. That doesn't mean you can't state your opinions of a player or the team, but do it in a respectful manner. Repeated warnings for those who don't comply will result in the loss of access to the Around the Majors...

  7. The New York Mets Thread

I decided to start a Mets thread because there have been a collection of smaller Mets threads in ATM and I think it would be best if we just had a larger thread to cover all things Mets. Two things about them strike me today... 1. Pelfry looked pretty good last night. 2. I have a feeling the Mets fans across the nation are beginning to sweat a little bit because right now the Braves are mashing. Ok. Go ahead, start discussing.

With the recent SCOTUS decision and the prominence of New Jersey in the discussion, I think this is threadworthy. 9. Too early to start talking about the one game playoff?

I personally think with Cano out, the playoff teams are already set in the AL. The only question is weather or not the Yankees or Red Sox face Ohtani. Id still take the Yanks or Sox at home against Ohtani in a one game playoff, but by no means am I confident. Very possible that a 100 win team gets bounced in the Wild Card round, whether it be against Verlander, Ohtani, or Paxton.

  10. The Hunt For Shohei Ohtani

It's on. He's being posted this offseason. The quickest way to go from a middle of the pack team to a contender would be by signing an ace-caliber pitcher for under $3M. Almost unfair to the teams that miss out on him.

  11. Could a Trade Deprive Manny Machado of the Triple Crown?

Manny Machado leads the AL in batting average and RBI and is 1 behind Mookie Betts in home runs. Imagine if Machado leads MLB in all three categories but doesn't win the Triple Crown because he gets traded to the NL.

  12. 2013 MLB Draft Redo, Judge vs Kris Bryant

So far the only All Stars to come out of that draft are Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, and Corey Knebel. Should also be noted the Yankees have first rounders Clint Frazier (#5 overall) and Billy McKinney (#24 overall) still in the organization. Kris Bryant and Aaron Judge are pretty similar players at this point, but gun to my head Id still probably take Bryant.

  14. Poll: Who has a better year in 2018 Gray/Price

A month in and David Price and Sonny Gray have both been disappointments to say the least Gary 27 IP, 1-2, 6.67 ERA, 1.926 WHIP, 4.5 IP per start Price 37 IP, 2-4, 5.11 ERA, 1.405 WHIP, 5.3 IP per start So which one "turns it around" and has a better year. The answer to this question might have a lot to do with which team wins the AL East this year.

  19. Todd Frazier signs with the Mets

The Mets just signed Todd Frazier to a two $17 million deal. Since he made $13 million last year, the Mets got him at a good discount. I liked Frazier, a NJ homeboy. Given David Wrights health Problems Todd should provide good insurance at third. Way to go Todd. I wish you well Andy

I am just going to learn from my experience and make the best out of it,-Ken Giles
