Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Can the Cardinals keep Pujols?

After paying Holliday $120M and over 17M/yr, where does this leave Pujols? Pujols has to be thinking $25M/year for at least the same 7 years. At the least. That's only $175M, btw. I think he's going to command something around $250M total, whether it be more year, higher AAV or both. I'd really like to see him stay in the NL of obvious reasons, but also because I think he just needs to stay in St. Louis. It's better for baseball, kind of like Mauer staying in MN, even though I'm almost...

  2. Players who have not yet officially retired, but are not on an MLB team?

I think the last few years, moreso than I can remember, we have seen a lot of guys not officially retire from baseball, but are not on any team currently because they are either no longer good, not healthy, etc. Who are some players who have not officially retired, yet are no longer part of MLB? I am sure the list is plenty, but here are two off the top of my head. -Barry Bonds -Frank Thomas

  7. Lincecum, Giants submit $13M and $8M arbitration figures respectively (update)

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/lincecums-arbitration-number-23-million-plus.html Obviously no arbitrator will award him anywhere close to that number but he is definitely going to beat Ryan Howard's 10M.

Phillies get Halladay, Mariners get Cliff Lee, and the Jays get prospects. OK after Lackey signing should it be time for us to worry.

  13. Selig announces committee to review on-field issues

During a conference call this afternoon — it’s actually going on as I type this — commissioner Bud Selig announced the formation of a 14-person committee that will review on-field baseball issues. According to the commissioner, those issues will include scheduling, postseason format, umpires, instant replay and the pace of the game. “There are no sacred cows,” Selig said. The committee is made of four managers, four general managers and team presidents and four owners. Hall of Famer Frank...

  14. Joe Mauer, the greatest catcher of All-time?

Well if he continues at this pace and will only get better and has a nice long injury free career, I think we're witnessing the Michael Jordan of catchers...a lot of IFs there but he's on track. Piazza is the greatest offensive catcher, pudge is one of the all time top defensive catchers and his offense wasn't so bad as well. Mauer is now hitting with power and his average is at "stud" level. His defense seems solid as well, we all remember that play against "Gardy" at home plate...that's...

  16. Vladimir Guerrero a HOF?

I was pondering this thought when on the can this morning and decided to look up his stats....407HR/321 BA/2249 hits/1318 RBI/420 doubles/.386 OBP/.586 SLG Say he plays another 5 years (he will be 40) and get's 500 HRs and say .310 or .305 BA and 2600 hits.....does he get in??? At one time his upside potential was huge...but I think his time with Anaheim was his prime and he put up good numbers.. not great but good and now he will only maintain is not decline.. What do *YOU* think :D

  19. La Russa wants to use Mark McGwire as a pinch hitter?

La Russa said in the Contra Costa story that he hoped McGwire might be able to join the Cardinals as a pinch-hitter on Aug. 31, if the team is in postseason contention. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100107&content_id=7887624&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl I just heard this on the MLB Network and literally did these three faces as i was listening.:wtf::thatsodd: I honestly dont see it happening but I just thought that it was just crazy enough...
