Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Hall of Fame Results

What a joke. While Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina, and Curt Schilling will be sitting on the outside looking in, Jack Morris and Trevor Hoffman will be inducted this summer. This is supposed o be about baseballís biggest stars. Really?

  9. Roy Halladay and the Hall of Fame

I was just looking at Roy Halladay's career numbers earlier today, and I can't imagine him having the credentials to make the HOF unless he can keep this up for 4-6 more years. He is perceived to be one of the best pitchers in the game, which I completely agree with. His numbers are falling a little short for the HOF voters though. He is entering his age 32 season and he only has 131 wins with a career 3.52 ERA and 1287 K's in roughly 1800 innings. He has 1 Cy Young award and has finished...

  10. Daily 25-man Active Rosters

Every day, for every game, 30 teams basically have 21 players that can play. There are 4 starting pitchers that won't play. Why won't the rules allow the teams to use those extra 4 spots for that day's game? Maybe a couple of extra relievers or bench players would add some strategy and/or excitement to the game that day. I'd love to see each and every team roster have more flexibility during extra innings or be able to take advantage of its own strengths. Am I missing something here?...

Yeah, it stinks we came 1 game away from being there. If you can stand to watch and/or talk about it, feel free. My wife of 23 years is a Dodgers fan, so I will take them in 6. (Even though we have tickets for game 7).

  17. Can we just talk about Mike Trout for a second?

Dude puts up one GREAT year after another. He's unreal. Will go down as one of the all time greats. It's a shame he's being wasted on the Angels tbh I just can't get over his consistent greatness. And it's like he's even getting better.

  18. Poll: Where Will Chris Sale Finish In MVP Voting?

Many of Chris Sale's statistics are better than Justin Verlander's 2011 MVP season. However, Sale is on pace for 6 fewer wins and 20 fewer innings. Sale already has 11 starts he didn't win, which is more than the 10 that Verlander had. Sale needs 6 wins from likely 8 starts to reach 20 wins, and I doubt he will win MVP without reaching 20 wins. No starter has won an MVP with fewer than 21 wins since Spud Chandler won MVP with 20 wins in 1943. Kershaw won MVP with 21 wins, but no AL starter...

  19. Baseball and Current Events

While other sports are far more economically exploitative of their players than baseball or have more explicit histories of racism, baseball is perhaps the most conservative and traditionalist mainstream sport in the U.S. in terms of ideology and culture. Given the salient social-political moment, it's interesting (and about time) that someone stepped up http://www.sfchronicle.com/athletics/article/A-s-Bruce-Maxwell-first-MLB-player-to-kneel-for-12223798.php&cmpid=twitter-premium

  20. The "Starters Must Pitch 5 Innings To Get A Win" Rule

If the Yankees win today, it will be the third consecutive win in which the Yankees starter pitched fewer than 5 innings. There's no way to force managers to leave starters in longer, and if the percent of innings pitched by relievers (about 3/8ths = 37.5%) remains the same or increases, the 5 inning rule gives too many relief pitchers wins when they are brought in while winning and should get a hold instead. Unless the rule is changed to something like 4 1/3 innings, the win statistic...
