Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. AL WC Game - Baltimore at Toronto

Anybody watching? Pillar makes a nice catch on a Machado fly ball in the T4, probably saving a run. Trumbo follows with a 2 run HR to put the O's up 2-1

  2. Robinson Cano

Don't look now, but guess who's leading the league in HR and RBI at 9 and 30? A couple of years ago when he moved to Seattle, some were saying that his power was gone. Apparently not.

  3. Rules About Inning-Ending Double Plays and Runs Allowed To Score

If the batter grounds into a double play with both outs being forceouts, a run cannot score. If the first out of a double play is a ball being caught, and the second out is a runner tagged out attempting to advance to second or third, the run counts if it was scored before the last out. If first baseman Justin Smoak had caught Kevin Pillar's throw, Ellsbury would have been doubled off first base to end the inning. Ken Singleton said that Gardner's run would have counted if he scored in time...

  4. Most Players With 20 Home Runs In A Season and More History For Jean Segura

Yesterday Michael Kay said that the next player to reach 20 home runs would be the 104th player to do that in 2016, which would be the most ever in one season. Gary Sanchez had a chance to be that 104th player when he struck out last night. In the first inning tonight he homered, extending the record to 105 players. Arizona's Jean Segura, who is known for stealing first base, hit a leadoff home run against Washington's Max Scherzer to be the 104th player this season to hit at least 20 home...

  5. The Official Watching the Scoreboard Thread - 2016 Regular Season

Didn't think we'd need one of these this year but only 3.5 games out of a playoff spot entering today... Go Chi Sox! Go A's! and most importantly Go Rays! All 3 leading early.

  6. R.I.P. Willaim Kinsella

KInsella was author of Shoeless Joe, which became the movie Field of Dreams. He also authored a fantastic novel with magic realism, The Iowa Baseball Confederacy. He once said he dreamed about baseball every night. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/novelist-w-p-kinsella-author-of-shoeless-joe-dies-at-81/

  8. Rob Manfred thinks late inning relievers are too good.

I wasn't aware this was even a problem. The man sounds like a video game developer wanting to nerf an overpowered weapon. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/17118662/mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-says-looking-possible-limits-use-relief-pitchers-games

  9. Marlins bar season ticket from renewing for selling too many tickets

Nick Barbella can pinpoint the exact moment he tumbled down Jeffrey Loria’s rabbit hole. It was late August, and Barbella was pleading with a Miami Marlins sales rep to be allowed to hand over around $4,900 for a season ticket package — and repeatedly being refused. “That’s when it hit me: Wait, I’m begging them to let me give them my money? What the hell is going on here?” Barbella recalls. Welcome to life as a Marlins fan. Even as the franchise has struggled mightily to attract fans...

  11. Greatest Play in Cleveland Indians History Last Night!

Tyler Naguin hit an Inside the Park WALK OFF HR after the Tribe tied it 2-2 when the previous hitter, Jose Ramirez, tied the score with a home run of his own. The Indians have NOT had a walk off HR since 1916 - 100 years! It was poetic justice as Trevor Bauer struck out 13 in 8 innings while walking only 2 but gave up a 2 run homer in the first.

  14. Jessica Mendoza hired by ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball

I didn't see a post or anything in the News thread, so here it is. This is fantastic, I thought she was great. And I LOVE that Boonie will also be there. SNB just became watchable again. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/01/13/462930401/espn-hires-jessica-mendoza-for-sunday-night-baseball?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20160113

  15. Baseball's "Unwritten Rules"

Deadspin got a guest contribution from former MLB pitcher and (in the baseball world of literature) renowned author, Dirk Hayhurst on the unwritten rules of baseball. It's a pretty enlightened view from a guy who once played at the MLB level. This excerpt is his conclusion: Calling it like it is.

  17. The Blue Jays Thread

Figured at 23-16 the Blue Jays could use a thread. I am pretty surprised they are doing this well considering their team ERA is 9th in the AL and their team batting avg is 12th (but 2nd in AL with Rays in runs scored). What do people expect them to finish? I kinda figured they would get around 75 wins but now I'm starting to wonder....
