Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. 2017 World Series Thread

Yeah, it stinks we came 1 game away from being there. If you can stand to watch and/or talk about it, feel free. My wife of 23 years is a Dodgers fan, so I will take them in 6. (Even though we have tickets for game 7).

  2. Baseball Might Expand to 32 Teams

Key word is might but found this to be an interesting article. A new west coast team and Montreal team. http://www.baseballamerica.com/columnists/expansion-trigger-realignment-longer-postseason/#GIpvLxWhJEyP54Ci.97

  4. Jessica Mendoza hired by ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball

I didn't see a post or anything in the News thread, so here it is. This is fantastic, I thought she was great. And I LOVE that Boonie will also be there. SNB just became watchable again. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/01/13/462930401/espn-hires-jessica-mendoza-for-sunday-night-baseball?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20160113

  6. ALDS: Red Sox vs Astros

1st inning, Nunez just carried off the field after running to 1B. Not a good start for Boston.

  7. Can we just talk about Mike Trout for a second?

Dude puts up one GREAT year after another. He's unreal. Will go down as one of the all time greats. It's a shame he's being wasted on the Angels tbh I just can't get over his consistent greatness. And it's like he's even getting better.

  8. Poll: Where Will Chris Sale Finish In MVP Voting?

Many of Chris Sale's statistics are better than Justin Verlander's 2011 MVP season. However, Sale is on pace for 6 fewer wins and 20 fewer innings. Sale already has 11 starts he didn't win, which is more than the 10 that Verlander had. Sale needs 6 wins from likely 8 starts to reach 20 wins, and I doubt he will win MVP without reaching 20 wins. No starter has won an MVP with fewer than 21 wins since Spud Chandler won MVP with 20 wins in 1943. Kershaw won MVP with 21 wins, but no AL starter...

  9. Baseball and Current Events

While other sports are far more economically exploitative of their players than baseball or have more explicit histories of racism, baseball is perhaps the most conservative and traditionalist mainstream sport in the U.S. in terms of ideology and culture. Given the salient social-political moment, it's interesting (and about time) that someone stepped up http://www.sfchronicle.com/athletics/article/A-s-Bruce-Maxwell-first-MLB-player-to-kneel-for-12223798.php&cmpid=twitter-premium

  10. The "Starters Must Pitch 5 Innings To Get A Win" Rule

If the Yankees win today, it will be the third consecutive win in which the Yankees starter pitched fewer than 5 innings. There's no way to force managers to leave starters in longer, and if the percent of innings pitched by relievers (about 3/8ths = 37.5%) remains the same or increases, the 5 inning rule gives too many relief pitchers wins when they are brought in while winning and should get a hold instead. Unless the rule is changed to something like 4 1/3 innings, the win statistic...

  11. Question About A Pitching Change During A Plate Appearance

Pomeranz left with a 2-0 count and got charged with a walk with the last two balls from Workman. If Headley had scored, does being charged to Pomeranz mean that it would have scored as a runner inherited by Workman? What if a pitcher is brought in with the bases loaded and a 2-0 count, walks the batter, and then gives up a grand slam? Would the pitcher be charged with letting four inherited runners score in one game?

  12. 'Hawk' Harrelson retiring from booth after '18

The White Sox announced on Wednesday that Ken "Hawk" Harrelson, the club's iconic television play-by-play announcer on CSN Chicago and WGN-TV, will return for his 34th and final season in the broadcast booth in 2018. A five-time Emmy Award winner, three-time Ford C. Frick Award nominee and two-time Illinois Sportscaster of the Year, Harrelson will work a 20-game schedule during the 2018 season, including Sunday home games and other select contests. "Hawk has left a lasting imprint on the...

  13. What's The Most Games A Team Has Won A Division By?

What's the most games a team has won a division (or league before there were divisions) by? Houston is on pace to win the AL West by 27 games. That's more than the 1998 Yankees, who won by 22 games, and the 2001 Mariners, who won by 14 games.

  14. Most Runs With Only One Amount Of Runs In Any Inning

Last night Kansas City had four innings with 4 runs and won 16-4. Does anybody know of another time when a team scored at least 16 runs and in every inning scored 0 or the same other number?

  16. Bush Bails on Jeter and Marlins bid

Sounds like a power struggle was at play with DJ getting a little greedy. Guess that leaves the Romney/Glavine group in the driver's seat. If I'm Romney, I drastically reduce my offer just to stick it to Loria: http://nypost.com/2017/05/30/jeb-bush-out-of-miami-marlins-bid-leaving-jeter-a-mystery/

  17. ** Is it high time we allow PEDS into MLB? I say yes, bring it on!!!!

Is it time to allow all MLB'ers to use PEDS? Yep, it sure is! I happened to enjoy baseball back when them there fellas were smashing over 60 HRs apiece. And did any of those who used PEDS die?? Well of course not! Lemme tell you a brief story: *I* used PEDS from age 55 to 62. I still use testosterone but quit using HGH. And yes I had/still do, have a legal MD prescription. So did HGH and testosterone make me a great baseball player? Of course not! Did it improve my free throw...

  18. Has Anybody Seen This Happen?

Occasionally a runner on first doesn't expect a ball to be caught and has gone past second before he realizes he needs to tag up. The runner can tag up as long as he touches second on the way back. I'm wondering if anybody has seen a runner start at third, touch home plate thinking he was scoring, walk off the field, and then get doubled off third due to a catch he didn't expect. Can anybody cite a rule about if a runner could tag up and go back to third after touching home?

  19. Scoring Decisions That Can Be Changed Later

Plays can be changed from hits or errors or errors to hits days later. Is there a list of scoring decisions that can be changed after the game? As you may have seen, Chris Carter flied out on a ball that touched a fan (who Michael Kay said reached over), but the play was not recorded as fan interference. The play was not reviewed, and reviewing it wouldn't have helped if it just would have changed it from a normal fly out to a fly out on fan interference. However, if I know the rules, any...
