Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Great article on the history of reporting on steroids

    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/10261642/mlb-hall-fame-voting-steroid-era Well worth a read

  2. Would an "opener" work in baseball?

I read this article and watched it discussed on Clubhouse Confidential. I think it's interesting. Having a relief pitcher start the game in the first inning and have your starter start the game in the second. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2013/11/26/5144934/openers-bullpen-usage-closers-setup-men-weird-baseball-all-the-luke-hochevar

  3. Ralph Kiner, RIP

Ralph Kiner long time Mets announcer, Hall of famer and NL HR leader (or tied for the lead) in his first seven major league years of a ten year career passed away today at age 91. Kiner and Johnny Mize were the premier sluggers during Kiners ML career. Mize and Kiner shared the NL HR title in 1947 and 1948. Ralph will be missed. He was an early hero of mine Andy

  4. Baseballsavant.com

http://baseballsavant.com/pitchfx_search.php Someone on reddit came up with this PITCHf/x tool and it's pretty awesome. Not sure how many have seen it, but thought I'd pass it along. Actual thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1w9yw9/i_syncd_pitchfx_data_with_70000_mlb_videos/

  7. Deadspin buys HOF vote

ballot.] Vote here!] Oh this is great. They had talked about doing this, but I missed when it actually happened because it was over Thanksgiving. Some writer responded to their call and sold his/her vote: http://deadspin.com/deadspin-buys-hall-of-fame-vote-will-turn-it-over-to-d-1467003665 Baseball writers are not happy and it's hilarious: http://deadspin.com/the-pundits-weigh-in-on-our-purchase-of-a-hall-of-fame-1475060860

  10. Granderson a Met

4 yrs/$60M. Though never enamored with his defense and all those Ks, I wish him all the best. Seems like one of the nicer, more intelligent guys in the game. With his power and production, he'll definitely help the lowly Met offense. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/10089565/new-york-mets-curtis-granderson-agree-4-years-60-million

  11. 2013-2014 off-season trades/free agent signings

Josh Johnson just signed a one year, $8 million deal with San Diego. There is a clause that if he makes 8 starts or fewer, San Diego will have an option for 2015 for $4 million.

  14. Predict the next Hall of Fame slugger

Looking at the top 50 home run hitters of all time, currently there are seven who are eligible for the Hall of Fame that have not been elected, with another six eligible over the next four years. Baseball writers though don't seem to want to vote for anybody who has ties to PEDs, to the extent where they may not vote for a guy with no apparent PED ties just because they're afraid he may have used. So, who will be the first slugger of the steroid era to get elected? Currently eligible: ...

  15. Ted Lilly To Retire

130-113, 106 ERA+ in near 2000 IP Making 2 All-Star, getting a WS ring (not sure if the Yankees actually gave him one), winning 100 games and having a winning record with an above average ERA+. Not bad. Oh and over $80M to his bank account too. Hope he enjoys his retirement.
