Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  2. Roy Halladay and the Hall of Fame

I was just looking at Roy Halladay's career numbers earlier today, and I can't imagine him having the credentials to make the HOF unless he can keep this up for 4-6 more years. He is perceived to be one of the best pitchers in the game, which I completely agree with. His numbers are falling a little short for the HOF voters though. He is entering his age 32 season and he only has 131 wins with a career 3.52 ERA and 1287 K's in roughly 1800 innings. He has 1 Cy Young award and has finished...

There's so much going on here that I think it deserves its own thread. Hopefully Cashman comes out of there with a SP, IF, and RP! -MLBTR

  4. Predict the next Hall of Fame slugger

Looking at the top 50 home run hitters of all time, currently there are seven who are eligible for the Hall of Fame that have not been elected, with another six eligible over the next four years. Baseball writers though don't seem to want to vote for anybody who has ties to PEDs, to the extent where they may not vote for a guy with no apparent PED ties just because they're afraid he may have used. So, who will be the first slugger of the steroid era to get elected? Currently eligible: ...

  5. Ted Lilly To Retire

130-113, 106 ERA+ in near 2000 IP Making 2 All-Star, getting a WS ring (not sure if the Yankees actually gave him one), winning 100 games and having a winning record with an above average ERA+. Not bad. Oh and over $80M to his bank account too. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

I'm in shock that there was no Miggy thread. He's having the best offensive season since Bonds. A 207 OPS+!

  9. Why Donnie, why?

If you were Mattingly would you want to stay as manager of the Dodgers after the way they treated him or move on to another club like Seattle or Detroit? What do you the rest of you think?

  10. How Come ESPN's Keith Law Has Hughes Ahead Of Nathan On His Free Agent List?

How come Keith Law thinks Phil Hughes is better than Joe Nathan? Nathan is one of the best closers ever. He's tied for tenth in career saves, and of the top eleven in career saves he ranks third in career ERA behind Rivera and Billy Wagner. Nathan's career ERA is better than Hughes's ERA in any season.

  19. NLDS: Pirates vs Cardinals

I'm watching Game 1 and what a shocker, AJ Burnett implodes in the 3rd inning, who could have seen that coming? 7 Runs in, all in the 3rd inning, and still nobody out, and it all started by walking the leadoff hitter who was the pitcher. Mercifully AJ was finally yanked with a runner on 2nd and still nobody out. Typical AJ
