Discuss the rich history of baseball in here.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Autograph signings website

For those of you who are interested in memorabilia shows (not just baseball) for the entire country this is the best website that I have seen. www.signingshotline.com

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: Great Baseball Photos (George H. Ruth's collection)

One of our newer forumers offered to share some photos, but didn't have enough posts to start a new one. Babe, this thread's for you -- post away. :)

Hey folks...This is a great website for autograph news. They've also been exposing the falacies of the third party authenticators claiming to be the "industry leading experts" such as JSA, GAI, PSA/DNA and others... http://www.autographalert.com/news.html Very good info!! 1. November 21: Stan Musial Centenary

One of baseball's really great hitters. If he had played with the Yankees back in the 1940s and 1950s, he would, today, be up there in baseball mythology with Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, and Mantle.

  2. New Audio of Lou Gehrig Discussing the Babe's Called Shot

First of all, let me just say that any audio of Lou Gehrig is simply incredible. He was such a brilliant, well-spoken man. If you've never heard it, I strongly recommend you give a listen to this radio interview from August 1939, after his retirement and famous speech. By prior agreement he did not discuss his health, but hearing him talk about the game is a rare and precious treat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX5eoiQzXwQ Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I just stumbled across...

  3. Yankees Whose First Game at Yankee Stadium Was After They Left

Toronto put Rowdy Tellez on the IL and called up Billy McKinney. McKinney made his MLB debut for the Yankees at Toronto on March 30, 2018. The next day, he got injured in LF in the bottom of the first. On July 26, 2018, the Yankees traded Brandon Drury and McKinney for Happ. On August 18, he played his first MLB game since his injury, and it was for Toronto at the Yankees. If he enters today's game, he will have played for the Yankees but never at home and have faced the Yankees in two...

  4. Most Teams Played For by a Player With an MLB Debut at 30 or Older

I just saw that Erik Kratz is 40. I knew he was old by MLB standards, but I didn't know he was that old. He made his MLB had 30 years and 32 days old, and he's played for nine teams. He's played for the Yankees and both Pennsylvania teams nonconsecutively, meaning that he's changed teams 11 times, and that doesn't include changing organizations while in the minors. He played in three organizations in the minors but not MLB, and including minor league time he was in Toronto's organization...

  5. The Negro Leagues

I don't get many chances to post in this forum, so I figured that since I came across something worthy, we may as well start. I found this blog on mlb.com, and I'll post anything else here occasionally. Someone feel free to add in. http://nlbm.mlblogs.com/

Octavio Dotel pitched for 13 teams, including 9 after the Yankees. Ron Villone pitched for 12 teams, with 9 of them before the Yankees.

  9. When do these guys get their Monument Park glory?

I’m sure the Yanks are taking a break after inducting the Core 4 a few years back, but I’m still amazed at a bunch of legends still on the outside looking in: Hall of Famers: Just about all of the ones left that don’t fall into the category of “well he’s in for another franchise” like Dave Winfield and Rickey Henderson, are from the 1920s teams, so are they waiting on the Golden Anniversary for Waite Hoyt, Earle Combs and Herb Pennock to get Monument Park plaques added to their Cooperstown...

  11. Worst Career Batting Average Before Winning a Batting Title

The White Sox's Tim Anderson leads the AL at .334, and LeMahieu is second at .328. Anderson debuted on June 10, 2016, and he started the year with a .258 career average.

  12. Biggest Pitcher Winning Percentage Range Other Than 1.000 and .000

Boston's Brandon Workman went 10-1 (.909). In 2014, he went 1-10 (.091), for a gap of .818. Excluding seasons with only wins or only losses, do any other pitchers have that big a gap between their best and worst season winning percentages?

  14. Babe Ruth And Ground Rule Double HR's

I was listening to the Orioles-Red Sox game tonight and Joe Angel was talking about how in 1931 the NL changed the rule where balls that bounced over the outfield wall counted as a home run. Two years earlier in 1929 the AL had changed the rule. So my question is how many of Babe Ruth's home runs between 1915-1928 were actually ground rule doubles? Were there any statistics kept back then that differentiated between the two types of HR's?

  15. Has a Rookie Ever Won an ERA Title?

After Tampa Bay plays in Saturday, Tyler Glasnow will not have enough innings to qualify. Charlie Morton raised his ERA from 2.32 to 2.65, which moved Justin Verlander to second behind Glasnow in ERA, with Detroit's Spencer Turnbull in third. Verlander has a 2.38 ERA, and Turnbull has a 2.40 ERA. Turnbull is a rookie who went 0-2 in 16 1/3 innings last September. I'm not saying Turnbull will win it, but if he even leads at some point in May or later, that's surprising.

  16. Players Started the Season on the Same Date in Consecutive Years Not at the Beginning

Marc Rzepczynski's first two years were with Toronto. He made his MLB debut on July 7, 2009. His first game of 2010 was on July 7. What other players played their first game of consecutive seasons on the same date in May or later?

  17. Most Runs Scored or Allowed Before or After a Shutout

In a doubleheader on September 9, 2004, Kansas City beat Detroit 26-5, and then Detroit won 8-0. What's the most runs a team has scored a game before or after being shut out? What's the most runs a team has allowed a game before or after pitching a shutout (not necessarily a complete game)?

We know that Mussina won 20 games for the first time in his last year in 2008. O'Neill had his only season with at least 20 home runs and at least 20 stolen bases in his last year in 2001.

  19. What's the Latest Inning For a Pitcher's First Career Win?

San Francisco's Williams Jerez pitched the 15th and 16th against the Mets before San Francisco won walkoff in the 16th after 2:30 A.M. What the latest inning for a pitcher's first career win. I checked Hector Noesi, who won his MLB debut for the Yankees at Baltimore on May 18, 2011. He pitched the 12th through the 15th, so Jerez's win was later.

  20. Most Career Wins by a Pitcher Who Faced the Yankees on Old-Timers' Day

Justin Verlander has 213 wins and is scheduled to pitch on Sunday. What pitcher had the most career wins before facing the Yankees on Old-Timers' Day? Is there a website with the dates of every Old-Timers' Day?
