  1. Facing The Yankees In Your MLB Debut and Getting A Win or Save To End A World Series

On June 2, 2015, Mike Montgomery made has MLB debut against the Yankees. Montgomery allowed 1 earned run in 6 innings, and he was 1 out away from a win when Stephen Drew doubled to tie the game against Fernando Rodney. On November 2, 2016, Mike Montgomery got the save in the last game of the World Series. That was 519 days after his MLB debut. Can anybody find a pitcher who made his MLB debut against the Yankees and got a win or save in the last game of a World Series within 519 days of his...

  2. What Player Played For The Most Teams In His First Season?

Jose Bautista made his MLB debut in 2004, and played for Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh that year. Has anybody else played for at least four teams in the year he made his MLB debut in?

  3. Consecutive Games With Wins and Saves from Pitchers Who Came To Their Team...

In the last two games, Adam Warren and Blake Parker got wins, and Tommy Layne and Tyler Clippard got saves. Does anybody know of another time where a team won consecutive games with four pitchers getting wins or saves from those two games and all four pitchers had played for another MLB team earlier that year?

  4. Fewest Career Games To Reach Ten Teams Played For

Michael Kay said that Dana Eveland is warming up in the bullpen for Tampa Bay. I looked at his career statistics, and Tampa Bay is his tenth team. It took him only 155 games to play for ten teams. Does anybody know if another pitcher has pitched for ten teams within his first 155 or fewer games? Edit: baseball-reference says 41 players have played for at least ten teams. Eveland had the fewest games played to reach ten teams played for. The next fewest games was 184 for Ken Jarvis,...

  5. Three Players With 100+ RBI Having RBI In The Same Game Against The Yankees

Before Mookie Betts, David Ortiz, and Hanley Ramirez yesterday, does anybody know the last time (if it has ever happened) that three players had RBI in a game against the Yankees and all three of them ended the game with at least 100 RBI? Since the Yankees started in 1903 (they were the Highlanders then), there have been 134 team seasons with at least three players with at least 100 RBI. I can eliminate all team seasons in the NL until 2013 during which time there were no interleague games or...

  6. Pitch Count Estimating Formula

I read a formula to estimate pitch counts from before people kept track of them. The formula is 5.5 pitches per walk, 4.8 pitches per strikeout, and 3.3 pitches per any other plate appearance. I decided to test the formula, and it worked well. For Sabathia, the formula estimated 49,570 career pitches, and he threw 49,493, for a difference of 77, which is 0.16 percent of 49,493. For Kershaw, the formula predicted 26,505 pitches, and he threw 26,558, for a difference of 53, which is 0.20...

  7. Players With A Career-High In Their Last Season

In 2001, Paul O'Neill had a career-high 22 stolen bases. In 2008, Mike Mussina had a career-high 20 wins and a career-best (career-low) 1.4 walks per 9 innings. If the statistic is a rate statistic, the player must have had at least 1 inning or 3.1 plate appearances per team game to qualify.

  8. Consecutive Days With Two Or Fewer Night Games

Yesterday there was one night game and today there are two night games. Does anybody know the last time there were consecutive days where most or all of the teams played and each day had two or fewer night games? Normally on holidays like Labor Day and July 4 there are many day games, but more than two night games.

  10. Channeling EvanJ: No pitcher on staff reaches 100 ERA+

The first year expansion 1969 San Diego Padres (52-110) employed 17 pitchers at various times, yet not one of them managed a 100 or better ERA+. This includes late-season acquisition Al McBean who only appeared in one game for Padres. Closest were #4 starter Dick Kelley (99) and co-relief-ace-by-committee Frank Reberger (99). Any other team ever do this? (Especially since WWII.) Remember, all pitchers who appeared count. Even a position player who pitches a shutout inning in a blowout...

  11. Biggest Gap In Wins Between Teammates With The Most and Second Most Career Wins

Sabathia leads the Yankees with 221 career wins. Clippard is second on the team with 45, which is 176 fewer than Sabathia. What's the biggest gap in wins between teammates with the most and second most career wins?

  12. Pitchers Who Were 1 Out Away From A Win In Their MLB Debut Before A Blown Save

What starting pitchers left their MLB debuts with a chance to get a win, were still able to get a win when their team was 1 out away from winning, but did not get a win because a reliever blew the save? On June 2, 2015, Mike Montgomery made his MLB debut with Seattle. Montgomery allowed 1 run in 6 innings to the Yankees. The teams scored 1 run each in the third. Seattle scored 1 in the bottom of the sixth, which was after Montgomery's last pitch, but since nobody else had pitched for...

Four days ago, Bartolo Colon got his first and only career walk at age 43 years 83 days. On June 28, 2009, Mariano Rivera got his first and only career walk at age 39 years 212 days. Does anybody know of another hitter who got his first career walk at age 39 or older?

  14. Would Anybody Like To Buy A Program From 1996?

I have a "1996 Scorebook and Souvenir Program" that cost $3. The cover story is "The Real Deal: Shortstop sensation Derek Jeter has taken the American League by storm in his rookie season." It also has an article about Tino Martinez, 57 short answers by John Wetteland (he said "I've got a problem with the DH rule"), the rosters for the Yankees and Tigers, a list of every MLB teams' pitchers (but not hitters), a list of the Yankees employees, information about the Yankees' minor league...

  15. Rookies Hitting Back-To-Back Home Runs

In the Top of the First Inning at the Mets against Logan Verrett, rookies Ryan Schimpf and Jabari Blash hit back-to-back home runs. Schimpf's home run made tonight his first career game with at least 4 RBI, so it was his first career grand slam. Does anybody know of another time when rookies hit back-to-back home runs? Edit: Schimpf hit a two run home run, making him the first player in over a year to have at least 2 home runs and at least 6 RBI in a game against the Mets. It's the first...

  16. Worst Games By A Pitcher Who Didn't Get A Loss In A Game His Team Lost

On June 10, 2005, Zach Greinke allowed 11 of the 12 runs Kansas City allowed, and Kansas City lost, but Greinke wasn't the losing pitcher. Kansas City came back from down 11-2 to tie the game at 11. In the bottom of the tenth, Arizona won walk-off 12-11 against Mike MacDougal. Does anybody know of another pitcher who allowed 11/12ths or more of the runs his team allowed in a game his team lost without getting the loss?

  19. Teams With Nobody In The Top 100 In MLB In RBI

After trading Beltran, the Yankees leader in RBI is Didi Gregorius, who has 43, which puts him tied for 101st in MLB. Beltran had 64 RBI with the Yankees, which would put a player tied for 95th last year, so only counting his RBI with the Yankees he could still finish in the Top 100. Do you know of any teams who finished the season without anybody in the Top 100 in MLB in RBI? A player who left the team during the season is excluded regardless of how many RBI he got with that team. A player...
