Forum: Player Performance Threads

All your mega-thread goodness is right here. (Formerly Inside the Lines)

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: ATTENTION EVERYONE – New Community Standards

Big news - our revised Community Standards are finally online. Please access them on the footer of the page, towards the right-hand edge..... The main point of differentiation between NYYFans and most other sports forums is the sense of community that has been fostered here, since our site was founded many years ago. In order to maintain this atmosphere, we must hold posters to certain basic expectations when participating here..... To this end, we will be conducting a relaunch of our...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: When Posting About the Yankees Management...

We tried to give everyone a little extra leeway the past week or so to allow everyone to vent, but now that things have calmed down a little I would just like to remind everyone that the community standards apply not just regarding posts about players or your fellow users, but also when you're posting about those in Yankees management. We encourage everyone to post their opinions freely, positive or negative, about the Yankees management or anything else, but please make sure to do so in an...

  4. Sticky Thread Sticky: Does it Belong in a Mega-Thread or Should it Get its Own Thread?

The mega-threads, i.e "The Official Player X Performance Thread" have their purpose for discussions such as general commentary and analysis about the players or their performance in recent games. In addition, we don't want users to start a new thread for every little thought about a particular player or game. However, there are some topics that are important enough to have their own thread. We encourage users to start new threads about players or the team when there's something newsworthy. ...

  1. 2019 Aaron Judge Performance Thread

According to the NY Post, Boone will have Judge lead off in the bottom of the 1st inning, something Judge hasn't done since high school.

  2. 2019 CC Sabathia Performance Thread

Today he pitched 4 2/3 innings for Tampa hosting Lakeland. He pitched 4 2/3 innings with 1 hit, 1 run that was earned, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. The only hit he allowed was a single by second baseman Kody Clemens, who is the youngest of Roger's four children. Considering that Kody is in A Advanced and this is Sabathia's last year, I bet Kody wasn't expecting to get a hit off CC. Sabathia left down 1-0 and was replaced by Janson Junk. No MLB player has had the first or last name "Junk." A...

  3. 2019 Edwin Encarnacion Player Performance

I just read Cashman has received Edwin in a trade from the M's for which the Yankees will pay him some $3M+ for the remainder of 2019. He is slated to be a UFA in 2021. A source told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez that the Indians have reached an agreement with Encarnacion on a three-year contract that includes a fourth-year option. The deal is worth $60 million guaranteed, which includes a $5 million buyout for the $25 million option for the 2020 season. So, Cashman could pay Edwin a $5M...

  4. 2019 Umpires Performance Thread

There have already been a bunch of terrible strike zone calls in the first week of the season, but lets start this year's thread off with a beauty. Ed Hickox calls a 3-1 pitch to Aaron Judge a strike. I won't stop saying it: the biggest failure in any of the major sports is MLB's lethargic approach to a strikezone called by technology. Hopefully the Atlantic League stuff they're experimenting with moves to the Majors fast.

  5. 2019 David Hale Performance Thread

David Hale was added to both rosters. Cortes Jr. was sent down, and Andujar went on the 60 day IL, which now has 9 players. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/haleda02.shtml has Hale's statistics. He's 3-1 with a 4.11 ERA in 6 starts for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

  6. 2019 Aroldis Chapman Performance Thread

He won AL Reliever of the Month in May before getting a topic here. In May, he allowed 1 earned run in 11 1/3 innings for a 0.79 ERA with 11 saves and no blown saves or losses.

  7. 2019 Luke Voit Performance Thread

One game in. 1-for-1, with a run, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 2 walks and 1 HBP. That's an OPS of 1.000, a SLG of 4.000, and an OPS of 5.000. Not a bad start.

  9. 2019 Gio Urshela Performance Thread

He was promoted, Thairo Estrada was demoted without playing, and Gregorius went on the 60 day IL to get Urshela on the 40 man roster. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/u/urshegi01.shtml has his statistics. He had a .608 OPS in 46 plate appearances with Toronto last year. He made his MLB debut for Cleveland on June 9, 2015, and he went by Giovanny Urshela then. Including 2015 and 2017 with Cleveland and 2018 with Toronto, he has a .589 OPS in 499 plate appearances. He has 8 home...

It hard to believe that, despite the recent rash of promotions of huge prospects, the Yankees incumbent All-Star second baseman is STILL one of the 10 youngest players on a Major League roster. 16. 2019 Brett the Jet Gardner Performance Thread

Starting this thread for the perpetually underappreciated veteran, likely in his final year with the team. He's on pace right now for yet another 2+ WAR season. Despite the low BA, he's posting the highest ISO of his career, his lowest K-rate ever, and his highest walk rate since 2010. Yes, he should be a backup at this point, and yet he's still our best defensive OFer, at age 35. Edit: "Jett" should have one T.

  17. 2019 J.A. Happ Performance Thread

He pinch-hit for German, giving him plate appearances in consecutive games. I wonder when the last time a Yankees pitcher had plate appearances in consecutive games. As for his primary job, he 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA. His home run rate is too high, and his strikeout rate is low.

  18. 2019 Breyvic Valera Performance Thread

The Yankees sent down Daniel Camarena and called up Breyvic Valera, who has a .567 OPS in 86 plate appearances for St. Louis in 2017 and the Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore in 2018. He's 27. Valera played mostly second base with a little time at shortstop, third base, and right field. In the offseason, he was traded to San Francisco for cash. On May 5, San Francisco DFAed him while he had a .733 OPS at AAA Sacramento. He had a .982 OPS in 207 plate appearances for SWB. ...

After starting 0-for-9, he got his first hit. This is the thirteenth player topic I've started this year, which is as many as last year, and in 2017 I only started five.

  20. 2019 Daniel Camarena Performance Thread

https://twitter.com/YankeesPR/status/1147563181377765387 says Ford was sent down, and Daniel Camarena was promoted. I found out by Coley Harvey's tweet today. Camarena has never pitched in MLB and wasn't on the 40 man roster, so he's using the spot Morales had. Including the 40 man roster and 60 day injured list, the Yankees have 10 pitchers with last names starting with A, B, or C. Camarena was drafted out of high school in 2011. He didn't pitch in the minors in 2011, pitched 17 2/3...
