Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. PP has a great interview with Damon Oppenheimer

For those that followed the unsigned guys to the deadline, the interview answers almost all of the questions we all had as to what the Yanks were thinking, who they looked to sign, and why they signed some players. While I generally think that PP is a little too overenthusiastic about many of the prospects, it is the access to Yanks officials to get information that you won't get elsewhere that makes it worth my money. I'm not shilling for these guys- but the interview was a good one.

  2. Kiesler K's 18!!

In 7 2/3 IP Kiesler gave up 4 hits, 1 Run, 2 Walks and Struck Out 18 for a Columbus Clippers record!! Great game!! I guess he thinks he should have been called up instead of Brandon Knight?

  3. Why can't the baseball draft be televised ???????????

I understand that the NFL and NBA players go right into the league itself after the draft were as in baseball you might have to wait years to see some of these players after there drafted ,but they for the last few years have televised the NHL draft and their players go into a farm system same as baseball.I feel also that you would have a better chance of getting sponsors for the baseball draft then the hockey draft because baseball is more popular.I don't think they would have to cover all 50...

  4. For what its worth my early draft dream list...

All the following pick should be within reach of the top 5 draft slots of the Yankee's.Of course I would love to have Jeff Niemann but we have to be realistic about it so here it goes.1-RHP Kenn Kasparek 6-9 205lbs out of Wiemar Texas,HS scouts say he at his age is more advanced then Niemann was .2 -RHP Andy Brackman 6-9 205lbs,HS out of Cincinatti OH.The draw back here is Andy can also play college basketball.A top athlete.3-RHP Mike Schlact 6-7 205lbs out of Marrietta GA ,HS 4-RHP Mark Jecmen...

  6. Farm Additions 2007: What Have We Got?

I'm just gettting the ball rolling on this, cause I'm exhausted. But looking at the signed picks and the IFA kids, what have we got now. Which kids seem to have the highest upsides? Let's try to take a shot at ranking them. Brackman, Vizcaino and the diminutive, fireballing Manny Bareda seem like pretty high upside pitchers, while DeLeon, Suttle and Angelini probably head a long list of impressive hitters. Anyway, it's over now and what have we got?

  7. Who is Justin Pope?

I see that he's now saving games for Trenton. First of all, what happened to Whelan? And 2nd, is Pope legit or is he an organizational-filler type? Thanks.

  8. Cardinals call up Rick Ankiel

KSDK in St. Louis is reporting that 2000 NL rookie of the year candidate Rick Ankiel has been called up to the big club for the first time since 2004 after wildness and injuries derailed his promising career. The 28 year-old Ankiel converted to the outfield back in 2005 and wass hitting .267 with 32 homers and 89 RBI for AAA Memphis. It's good to see him get another shot. http://www.ksdk.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=126460

  9. 24th rounder: Greg Peavey

I've read so many mixed reviews on Peavey that range anywhere from complete flattery, to indifference, to negativity centered on a supposed lack of development. He's commited to Oregon State, and he's got Boras as an advisor, so signing him is going to be difficult. Here's BA's take on him: Keith Law had him in his top 30 draft prospects coming into the year, and eventually slid him down to the 50is range.

  16. What is Phil Coke's future?

I saw him pitch earlier this year and he pitched 6 scoreless innings. And everytime I look at the boxscore the kid seems to be shutting people down. As a lefty does he have an MLB future at all? I know he is older now but since that is the case shouldn't the Yankees be trying to move him up. At least to AA by the end of the year to see if they have anything with him.

  17. Alan Horne's meteoric rise into the upper ranks of baseball prospects

It may seem like it happens overnight, but sometimes a prospect finally fulfills their promise after everything comes together for them (seemingly all at once - or, over night). The great Sandy Koufax didn't put it all together until he was nearly 26 years old. Other examples of high level major league performers who put it together well into their twenties, dot the baseball pantheon of greats. <p>Every year a baseball prospect, still in the minors, begins to fullfill his talent and catches the...
