Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. Life in Scranton

Great article from Jenny Vrantas in the Star-Ledger... http://www.nj.com/starledger/stories/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1185769538121820.xml&coll=1

  2. So, Anyone Miss Mark Hutton and Bobby Munoz?

After watching Hughes and Joba over the last two nights, I was reminded of the last time we had two "power" pitching prospects. The Yanks have come a long way in player evaluation and certainly pitching depth since those days.

  3. Organizational Depth

Does anyone have an updated depth chart of our farm system?? Here is yankee prospects last update - http://yankeesprospects.com/ Helpful, but outdated resource. Also which prospects would you like to see make their ML debut in Pinstripes vs being used as trade bait.

  4. Trenton Times: Joba and Kennedy are Scranton-bound

http://blog.nj.com/timesupdates/2007/07/thunder_fall_to_erie.html Despite a strong outing by Thunder starter Jason Jones, the Erie SeaWolves came away with a 4-2 triumph Monday night at Waterfront Park. Jones allowed just one run with five strikeouts in five innings, but a pair of errors left him on the wrong side of a 3-1 deficit. The Thunder scored a run in the fourth on singles by Alberto Gonzalez and Noah Hall and a throwing error. They added another in the eighth when Gonzalez...

  9. Which MiLB Yankees could be traded?

Phil Hughes and Jose Tabata obviously aren't going anywhere. Which Minor Leaguers can be traded to get good starting pitchers or a decent 1Bman? I'd much rather keeping this thread here, rather than havnig to deal with a 2,000-post thread that becomes unmanageable (by my standards, anyway). Thx.

  10. Jahdiel Santamaria?

From today's BA Hot List.... (while not rating either but leading with them) (After praising Jackson) We'd also like to give special mention to another Yankee, Rookie-level Dominican Summer League outfielder Jahdiel Santamaria. Aside from having a really cool name, the 20-year-old Panamanian native is hitting .354/.437/.551 in 147 at-bats for the DSL Yankees 1. == Is Santamaria the goods?..... and with that name he would have gone over well in Columbus

  11. News On Players Who Recieved Surgery

I thought I would move the convo from the game thread... We can use this thread to comment on all players coming back from TJ surgery and other surgery and all new players recieving it. Cox and Sanchez could be a huge piece in next years pen come all star break... Garcia is expected to come back to instructs July 07, If Garcia comes back healthy next year where does he start? Tampa? Or do they start him in low A and move him up if he shows he's ready to go? Same issue for...

  12. Status of Prospects from Shef & Randy?

I know that Sanchez has had TJ surgery and that Ohlendorf has been injured as well, I guess after a poor start at Scranton. I also know that Jackson has been unimpressive at Scranton, but I don't know why. How about the two relievers garnered in the Shef trade? And the slick fielding SS included in the Randy trade? As far as I can tell, the jury is going to be out for awhile on the Shef trade, but the Randy trade is not looking good, unless you count Viz as adequate.

  14. Can someone explain to me why everyone has put Chamberlin in the pen?

Like he's not gonna be a starter anymore. Everywhere I read they say he'll be put in the pen for good and not become a starter. I'm just wondering why you'd take a guy with starter stuff and stamina and put him in the pen

  15. Shelly Duncan

Most of us would say that he is a AAAA player. But it looks like he has taken tremendous strides this year. Does he have a shot at making the majors? Maybe a Kevin Millar type?

  16. Who is Jeff Kennard?

Newsday columnist Jon Heyman mentioned in his column today (6/18) that among the Yankees' possible trade chips is Jeff Kennard (97-mph thrower taught a split by Nardi Contreras). OK, need the experts to weigh in here and tell us who this guy is and why a 97-mph pitcher with a splitter is not in the Bronx bullpen today.

  17. Joba Chamberlain's start on 7/20/07

Since I found out Joba was starting 1 mile from my house, I decided to go watch him pitch and bring my laptop to blog about his start. Due to the rainout yesterday, the game will only be 7 innings long. The game has just started and I'll keep you posted.

  18. Kennedy and Chamberlain, when will they be in the Bronx?

With the promotion to AA of Ian Kennedy, first round pick of the Yankees in 2006, and the continued brilliance of Joba Chamberlain in A+ ball, how long will it be before these two polished ex-college All America pitchers get into a Yankees uniform.<p>Using my MDERA statistic to evaluate how well they are pitching in the minors this year, we find that Kennedy is posting a 103 while Chamberlain a 135 MDERA for 2007 so far.<p>That is, like Pecota's PERA statistic, my MDERA is designed to estimate...

  20. Analyses of Several High-Profile Minor League Pitching Prospects

The following is a list of most efficient to least efficient pitchers on the measure MDERA. MDERA uses minor league equivalent adjusted peripheral statistics. Several weeks ago <a href="http://forums.nyyfans.com/showpost.php?p=4252835&postcount=85">I introduced the calculation</a> (note that calculation was based on where Buchholz and Horne were at that time, the mle used today incorporate the additional data accrued since then for those pitchers) one uses to do determine the MDERA for a given...
