Forum: Around The Minors

Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?

  1. Minor League Spring Training

Does anyone know the minor leaguers spring training workout schedule? I plan on heading down there and want to check them out. Any info or past experiences would be great to here.

  3. The Laest on the Trenton (AA) Lineup and Roster

Found this in the Trenton paper. A few suprises like Thompson and where both he and Sardihna will play. Good reading. http://www.nj.com/thunder/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1111914317229890.xml

  4. Minor Preview

Yankees organization report 03/29/2005 8:00 AM ET By Jonathan Mayo / MLB.com The Yankees' farm system has withered recently, as trades and free agents were used to fill gaps. Over the last few drafts, however, New York has replenished its minor league squads, and hope to utilize their talent in the next couple of years. http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/emailArticleServlet?aid=403825

  5. Duncan #11 on the Sporting News Prospect Rankings

    11. Eric Duncan, 3B, Yankees, Age: 20 Duncan is the best prospect in the Yankee system and the only prospect in the Yankee system (with apologies to Robinson Cano) worth mentioning. A first-rounder in 2003, Duncan boasts good bat speed, raw power and polished hitting skills. His defense needs work at this point, but there's no reason he can't stick at third long-term. Last season, despite being only 19 years of age, he showed good raw power in the Midwest and Florida State Leagues and made...

  7. The Yankees Are Coming!

While riding down the interstate, I saw a lovely billboard with a pinstripe background with the words "The Yankees Are Coming". (Our minor league team The Charleston Riverdogs is affiliated this year). There are so many people moaning and groaning around here it's not funny (especially all the Boston fans who seemed to come out of the woodwork). However, I love it! :D :NY: :D :NY: :D :NY: :D :NY: :D

  8. Bubby news

TOUGH CALL: Bubba Crosby performed well all spring, but it might not have been enough to land him the backup center field job when camp breaks. Crosby, who was shuttled back and forth between New York and Class AAA Columbus last season, has a minor league option remaining, so his fate may be the same in 2005. A solid outfielder with a mix of speed and power, Crosby will likely be the first guy called up this year should the team suffer an injury.

  9. Cano in the Spring

Was Cano sent to Columbus? Haven't seen him in awhile. Anyway, he went 5/14, all singles. No walks. Seemed to play decent 2B.

  10. Stotts wants to be released

Looks like there are more disgruntled guys at Trenton. With Rifkin gone, JT Stotts takes over. Does this guy have a legitamite gripe? http://www.nj.com/thunder/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1111828183252750.xml

  14. Yankees sign Ramiro Pena

The Yankees signed 19-year-old shortstop Ramiro Pena out of Mexico to a minor league contract, with a $125,000 bonus. Pena immediately improves the organization’s depth at shortstop. Pena, a switch-hitter, comes from an athletic background, as his father and uncle both played for the Mexican League’s Monterrey Sultans, and he’s considered an above-average defender. He was expected to start the season in extended spring training, then join short-season Staten Island. He gives the Yankees another...

  15. BA King Felix tidbit

http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/features/050324felix.html Hernandez played on an amateur team named Flor Amarillo (the Yellow Flowers), which played games only on Thursdays. With his 16th birthday (and therefore signing eligibility) approaching during the spring of 2002, he began being pursued by the Yankees, Braves, Rockies and Mariners. Seattle won out with a $710,000 bonus offer in large part because of the trust that scouts Bob Engle and Pedro Avila (a Venezuelan himself) had built...

  18. Homer Bush released

Homer Bush was given his release yesterday, I really liked the guy, thought he had a good work ethic, thought he could have helped us this year and last. I really did want him to make the club last year and this, but we're kinda log-jammed with Womack and Sanchez. He started with Toronto a couple years ago, so he'll catch on somewhere. Here's the link: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050321&content_id=973604&vkey=spt2005news&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy It's...

  19. Dioner Navarro

David Ross is hitless in 11 at-bats this spring. Ross can't afford a slow start on the heels of his .170 2004 season. The LA Times suggests that Dioner Navarro, who has a .545 on-base percentage this spring, could overtake Ross for the starting job. GM Paul DePodesta said that Paul Bako is firmly entrenched in the No. 2 catcher role. Mar. 12 http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=MLB&id=6956 I didn't know whether to post this here on the the around the...
