  2. Yankees sign Ramiro Pena

The Yankees signed 19-year-old shortstop Ramiro Pena out of Mexico to a minor league contract, with a $125,000 bonus. Pena immediately improves the organization’s depth at shortstop. Pena, a switch-hitter, comes from an athletic background, as his father and uncle both played for the Mexican League’s Monterrey Sultans, and he’s considered an above-average defender. He was expected to start the season in extended spring training, then join short-season Staten Island. He gives the Yankees another...

  3. BA King Felix tidbit

http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/features/050324felix.html Hernandez played on an amateur team named Flor Amarillo (the Yellow Flowers), which played games only on Thursdays. With his 16th birthday (and therefore signing eligibility) approaching during the spring of 2002, he began being pursued by the Yankees, Braves, Rockies and Mariners. Seattle won out with a $710,000 bonus offer in large part because of the trust that scouts Bob Engle and Pedro Avila (a Venezuelan himself) had built...

  6. Homer Bush released

Homer Bush was given his release yesterday, I really liked the guy, thought he had a good work ethic, thought he could have helped us this year and last. I really did want him to make the club last year and this, but we're kinda log-jammed with Womack and Sanchez. He started with Toronto a couple years ago, so he'll catch on somewhere. Here's the link: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050321&content_id=973604&vkey=spt2005news&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy It's...

  7. Dioner Navarro

David Ross is hitless in 11 at-bats this spring. Ross can't afford a slow start on the heels of his .170 2004 season. The LA Times suggests that Dioner Navarro, who has a .545 on-base percentage this spring, could overtake Ross for the starting job. GM Paul DePodesta said that Paul Bako is firmly entrenched in the No. 2 catcher role. Mar. 12 http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.asp?sport=MLB&id=6956 I didn't know whether to post this here on the the around the...

  9. Danny Borrell in ST

I have a source that tells me that Borrell pitched BP yesterday against A-Rod, Posada, Matsui and Martinez and looked great. BP pitchers have to tell the batters what is coming and Borrell still blew several fastballs by A-Rod and had him fooled on the change-up. The curve was also very good. This is promising news regarding his recovery from shoulder surgery. Maybe we'll have another lefty available for this year.

  10. MVP Baseball 2005 Minor League Roster project

http://www.geocities.com/poonanimp3/mvprosteridea.htm Last year, there were several modders who worked to update all of the minor leaguers to include the real players in each team's system, but this took several months and forced many people to delay their dynasties. This year with the addition of the high A teams (Tampa being ours), I decided I would take the initiative and at least do the Yankees system so Yankee fans could start their dynasties with the real players in their system...

  11. Which prospets will make it to the Yankees ML roster?

out of all the top prospects we have, which do you see the yankees holding onto and gradually injecting into our ML roster? in the near future, i can only see cano at 2nd base. unfortunately, i think wang isn't ML ready yet, and by the time he is, he'll be traded. i can also see the yankees refraining from trading hughes, cabrera, and of course, duncan. thoughts?

  12. Visa/Marriage Scam Ends US Careers Of Ten Dominican Minor League Prospects

At least ten, and perhaps as many as thirty minor league prospects from the Dominican Republic will be permanently barred from obtaining a visa to work in the US, effectively ending their US careers. Privacy laws prevent the players from being named. "All of a sudden," said one club official, "lots of guys were showing up to get a visa, and 30 all got married three weeks ago. That kind of raised some eyebrows." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2007748 Edit: Sorry, the...

  15. Garabedian stars for Miami....

The Marlins played Miami yesterday and Alex Garabedian was the star knocking in 4 runs with a few hits.Looks like another one who got away.It kills me the money we waste for non needed players like Glanville when we have 2 players who could fill the bill and make peanuts but when it comes to our drafted players we get cheap.

  19. BA's Top 100 Prospects in MVP Baseball 2005

I just bought MVP Baseball today, and apparently BA helped EA put all of their top 100 prospects into the game under fake names (but with a little BA logo by their name when you view their info). Roberts = Jeff Mathias CF B. Brinkman = Javi Herrera C A. McDonald = Daric Barton RP P. Lidge =...
