  2. NBA Labor woes on the horizon?

The NBA collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of this season and David Stern and Billy Hunter were just shown on ESPN News at the annual "State of the NBA" press conference doing their posturing. Stern was talking of the need for more "cost certainty" and tightening the salary cap rules and Hunter posturing the opposite. I think we may see another sport with at least a delayed start next year.

  3. WFAN hosting a funeral for Hockey

Here's an email I received from WFAN... IN MEMORY OF HOCKEY In response to the many listener's calls ranging from outrage at the players and the league, to sadness at the loss of their favorite sport we will hold vigil for the FANs to mark the demise of the hockey season. WFAN will conduct a memorial service tomorrow in hopes of providing some light-hearted relief. The "memorial procession," led by a hearse carrying WFAN's Joe Benigno and Sid Rosenberg, will depart at 1pm from the...

  4. No Stanley Cup Finals? Blame the Red Sox...

In 1918, the Boston Red Sox won the WS. In 1919, the Stanley Cup Finals were cancelled (influenza epidemic). Since then, the Stanley Cup has always been awarded, and the Red Sox never won the World Series. In 2004, the Red Sox won the WS. In 2005, the Stanely Cup will not be awarded (Lockout). See? It's all the Red Sox fault!!!!

  6. Tuesday new NHL drop dead date?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1987595 The National Hockey League could cancel the season next week if a labor dispute with the players' association is not resolved, U.S. and Canadian newspapers reported Wednesday. The league is expected to make, perhaps as early as Wednesday, one last attempt to initiate talks with the players' union, the Los Angeles Times and Toronto Star reported. The Los Angeles Times, quoting sources, said the NHL is poised to issue a deadline of Monday...

  7. Greatest MIssed Dunk of All-Time

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I remember watching it live on TV in the bar at our frat house. There were a couple of us there and we were all stunned for about half an hour after the dunk was missed, and talked about it for days on end afterwards. If this dunk had been thrown down, it would have been the greatest dunk of all time. The only reason I bring this up is because I saw a high school friend a couple of days ago and we were out at a bar discussing sports....

  11. Kevin Garnett Interview

Ok, who saw this? The guy broke down and was crying. Man, I have nothing but the utmost respect for this guy's competitive spirit. I put him up there with DJ when it comes to that stuff. No one who saw the interview with John Thompson today would say otherwise. That was one of the single most revealing interviews I have EVER seen with ANY athelete.

  12. Grant Hill: Class Act Says Thanks To The Fans

Grant Hill wrote an open letter to fans today, in part to thank them for voting him to the All-Star team. Man, I wish there were more athletes like him. I recall Doc Rivers saying recently that Hill is the kind of person he hopes his daughter would someday bring home. "...The true face of the NBA is the hundreds of hard-working family men who are loyal to their communities and fully-aware of how privileged they are to be paid to do something we all love. When thinking of the typical NBA...

  14. After the Super Bowl last night, I was thinking of Bill Parcels when.......

I saw a scene of Belicheck, Weis and Crennel hugging on the field. Did any of you wonder what Parcells must have been thinking when he saw that? He probably wished they were still with him at Dallas. :D :D However, seriously, he must have immense pride in what these three former assistants have accomplished in football.

  16. Chow leaves USC

I'm sure you Notre Dame fans will be glad to hear this!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1987454 The story mentions that Carroll didn't fight to keep Chow and that there may be a rift between them. I wonder if there's any truth to that or he just knew how badly Chow wanted a shot and he didn't want to interfere.

  17. Three Hole-in-Ones in One Round

This is from my hometown newspaper. The area is a golf resort destination. I have never heard of anyone having more than one in a round, but this is absolutely amazing. Especially considering the guy is 79 years old. http://www.thebrunswicknews.com/front/282480765077159.php As the article stated... wonder what the odds of this happening are? I have been playing golf for 13 years and have yet to break in with my first.

  20. Poll: Poll: Dick Vitale?

Although I respect Vitale, and understand that his enthusiasm is genuine, I still am years past the point where I can listen to him do an entire game. He just wears me out, and his penchant for discussing anything but what is happening on the floor until the last two minutes drives me nuts. Frankly, I don't know very much about basketball, and a good analyst can really enhance my appreciation for the game. Anyhow, flail away.
